Jobs?

Wondering, where are some good places to apply that hire RNs with a restricted license? The only work restriction I have is direct supervision which means I have to give my CM a list of 3 supervisors and I can only be scheduled to work when they are present (they need to be on the premises, not standing over my shoulder). I should say my license is restricted due to DUIs I had before I became a nurse, they have nothing to do with anything I did AS a nurse. I have 2 years of experience as a RN in LTC and for the last year I was working on the rehab floor. I have good references. I want to get out of LTC though. Any suggestions?

Depending on  how much time is left in your contract you might want to stay where you are. If your liscense is not on the OIG list you can try applying at Dialysis center, drug and alcohol detox centers, and psych hospital's which are generally pretty forgiving. Since you do not have a narcotics restriction you could try so acute care facilities or clinics.

Good luck to you. It's  a crappy way to start out your acreer as a nurse.

I have 2.5 years left of monitoring. I've already left my job due to unnaceptable circumstances there and management refusing to take action. It was not a good work environment at all. I figured dialysis might be a good option as I've heard they're forgiving. But we will see I guess. Im going to try one of the hospitals in my area as they state that they review the restrictions on an individual basis, so I guess its work a try. Thanks for your input I appreciate it!

You can also try medical offices. There’s no narcotics and there is direct supervision. Don’t give up. Put your resume out there. Be honest in your interview and you’ll find something!  It takes awhile and can be incredibly frustrating but try to stay positive. You’ll get through this.

I don't have a narc restriction so the narcotic thing isn't an issue ?

Did u find a job? The administrator at my job is fine with the monitoring program, she even stated that they make the best nurses because they have already made mistakes and take the job seriously. So I just finished LPN school and was told I have to enter this volintary recovery program before I can even take my NCLEX. But I know for a fact my job will hire nurses that are in programs, and they need the help too.

I actually have not found a job.  I am honestly surprised I havent. I figured it would be easy with the experience I have have but nope. When I first got my license I got a job at my 3rd interview. I havent been so lucky this time. It's incredibly frustrating.

What state are you located. I have found that Psych facilities and dialysis center are more forgiving of past problems and are willig to hire nurses with contrated duties. If you are in California in the LA basin or San Gabriel Valley send me a PM and I will see if we have jobs at this time.

I am in WI. I am going to try to network and see what I can come up with. Thank you for the offer ? I am going to keep looking. I'm not going to give up. I have to much time and money invested in all this!

I really do suggest working in either psych or Dialysis. If you participate in a nurse support group you can brainstorm with your peers who are working.

Good luck to you, and don't freeze your behind off in this cold weather.

So we have 2 psych units in my town both at local hospitals (mayo and HSHS system). A few dialysis units at those 2 hospitals then we also have davita. I will apply if I see openings however I feel like mayo especially would be reluctant to hire a nurse with my background. It just sucks because my work reports have been excellent and I have awesome references. This whole mess is due to my drunk driving offenses long before I became a nurse. It's just crazy to me.

Hi StacyLynnRN, I finished the program in WI about 1.5 years ago & based on the hospitals you are describing, have a feeling you & I live in the same area of WI. I was able to find employment doing case management during my PAP.  I also did some PRN flu shot clinics. I wonder if you'd be about to give Covid vaccines? I used to see job postings for that but maybe the positions are all taken. You may have already explored these options, but I wanted to offer those options. Good luck with this journey--you can do this & stay positive!
