jobless in LA

:sniff: Ugh!! I can't find a job. And It's not even like Im being picky either. I've e-mailed my resume and filled out applications to about 10 places and I haven't heard anything from any of them. I need help!!! Should I personally go down to hospitals or what?? Also, I really wanna work in like a family practice doctors office or something more personal like that rather than med-surg 101. But how do I find a place like that? Any info, PLEASE!!!
Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I am assuming you're a newer nurse without much experience. If that's the case, it would be best to apply in person at facilities during the daytime hours when the DON or hiring managers will be present. Managers are much more receptive to people who take the initiative to actually apply in person, and often they will interview you on the spot.

It is easier to disregard an emailed resume, but very hard to disregard a live applicant who arrives in person with the resume.

Specializes in Home Health, PDN, LTC, subacute.

Yes, I second TheCommuter's advice. I pounded the pavement after trying the email/internet route. It worked!

go to hospital, ltc, clinics

take a job when it is offered even if it is not what you want to end up with, it will give you some hands on experience and a good reference and updated resume will always help you

good luck

good advice guys. I started a similar thread (How long before you were hired?) and this is exactly what I plan to do this coming week. "Pound the pavement." I've got my babysitter lined up , and I'm going to get out there. I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not having some anxiety, but they can only say yes or no, right?

Hi travelnurse63,

Could you refer any good travel nursing agencies for lvn/lpn's?

I had the best luck with Core Medical Group...most of their jobs are in the Northeast..They offer some excellent jobs in Vermont and Conneticut.. Little college towns, great snow skiing and hiking. They pay $21-24 hr.

Not bad when you consider free housing and all that..

Thanks, I will check them out. What about the west coast region, particularly California?
