There are 4 school nurses in my district. However, because of budget cuts, the district is considering cutting back to 2 nurses. Are any other nurses afraid of loosing their jobs?

our school system is facing a budget crisis as with all school systems. but at this point, i do not fear being cut. i think the parents would "raise the roof" if they cut school nurses. i also believe in the grace of god being with me, so therefore i do not worry.

I was worried earlier this year because they were trying to move all our students who require a nurse to go to one school in our county. Thank goodness our board member spoke up. No talk right now and they are going to send us all to our state school nurse conference. But really who knows what will happen?

I have to admit the thought has crossed my mind, especially since I do not have tons of hospital experience to fall back on if I do get cut. I am not terribly worried at this point, because there are still a couple nursing positions my district is trying to fill. I have talked to other nurses who have been with the district much longer than me, and they are not really worried either. But it still does bug my mind, especially since my DH is in sales and when the economy suffers, his commission does also.

Because of changes in funding and budget cuts - there have been some talk about nurses being on the line. I am a large urban district. God be with them if they cut a bunch of us is all I have to say!! The immunization compliance rate alone would drop so signifigantly - the entire city would be at risk! Not to mentio all of the other problems we handle (drugs, pregnancies, diabetes, emergencies)

I am a RN working in the school . I am the only nurse in the district (about 1000 kids pre-k to 12). I am not worried about my job being cut but I am working on becoming a Certified School Nurse in Illinois but I am not sure that the school will increase my pay accordingly when I am done. Unfortunately, without an increase in pay (currently 19_ish K/year to teacher salary and benefits) I might have to leave school nursing in a year or two.
