is the job available or not

On Friday I saw an opening for a job I wanted on the hospital's website. It was up for 3 days, than it was no longer there. Then it showed up again three days later, so I applied. But they just took it off again tonight and it hadn't been up for even the whole day. What's going on? Will they look at my application?

It is possible there were 2 vetting periods, or 2 open identical positions. Most hospital application websites should have a page where you can view your application status, you might want to look there.

These scenarios never seem to amaze me.

I would followup with them. I saw a job years ago for a staff nurse

position. Applied for the job, and followed up with HR.

Hoping to hear good news, or that the position was taken and I could move on,

here is what HR staff said---

"There are no positions in that specialty, thats an old ad and they sometimes

run them because there is a position in another specialty in the ad..":confused::confused::confused:

Talk about bait and switch. I moved right on, figured I did not want to work for a hospital

that was not upfront about what positions really existed. I let HR know what position I was

applying for when I personally delivered the application.

So, followup...navigating HR can be a mystery...

Sounds like they get someone they like, maybe hire her, then the applicant finds out the pay or finds a better place to work, so they repost the ad.

gayle_the_rn has a good point as do the others. other scenarios (you will not like these) exist…..

for example, the position is not actually open for any and all candidates..... rather there were one or two candidates they wanted to hire and they told those nurses to apply to the position on such and such date and time. the candidate or candidates did not make the time frame so they reposted the position allowing the candidate to get his/her application in, then they removed the position.

another scenario are old ad positions that were posted because a manager said he/she may need candidates but he/she is not sure. so hr posts the ad to fish for candidates, but removes it as soon as the manager realizes he/she has no money in his/her budget (i have personally seen this happen in departments i have worked multiple times).

also a long time ago, hr used to post positions just to fish without the consent of a hiring manager… i don’t think that really happens any more, but it may. on the other hand, i know that the scenario where an ad was posted and left sitting for months even though the position was filled still happens today!! some of your bigger hospitals are notorious for this because the left hand does not always know what the right hand is doing.

i call all of these scenarios false positions. hopefully, op, you applied to a real position but i have my doubts. gl!

Many hospitals post jobs but have actually frozen hiring. Just keep applying if you are looking for work.

I have seen one employer post ads for specific positions more than twice. When I called them to inquire about the position, I was told no such position existed. No answer to my question about why did they post it on an employment website. My take is that in this case it is nothing more than a ploy to lure applicants. Goes right along with other nefarious employment practices by the same employer.

Sometimes, it's simply an accident. That just happened to a position I had filled. After the position was filled and the ad was taken down ... the secretary was in the computer system processing the person who was hired. She accidentally hit the wrong button and the position got posted again. It took a few hours to discover the mistake and turn it off again -- after a couple of people had seen it and applied.

In this case, there was no bad intent -- just a mistake by a secretary.
