Is there anyone going to the January Army OBLC in San Antonio? I just got my orders I will be there!! I am not thrilled about my duty station but I am going to make the best out of it.

Hey, I'm waiting for orders to go to OBLC in Jan! I just passed the NCLEX and that should secure my slot in OBLC. Hopefully I will be getting orders soon. Where is your duty station? If all goes right, I'm heading to Walter Reed.

I only wish I knew... unfortunately, I'm still waiting to find out if I was selected or not. AAHHH, the waiting is killing me, lol. But congrats and good luck with everything! :]

My duty station is Ft. Polk MEDDAC.

My wait has been very long however, just like many others say once you get approved everything moves fast. One thing I do wanna give a heads up is that alot of the classes for OBLC are already full it looks like until August. However, your recruiter may have "reserved" a spot which I can't see on the pc. I only see how many people are already registered in the courses.

Walter Reed is very nice I met some nurses from there this past summer at a training. They are building a "new Walter reed" at ft. belvoir which is really nice.

Yeah I'm not so sure how it's working out. I was in the Direct Commission Program, so folks at Ft Knox are working out my orders to hit OBLC. As of late Oct, the Major down there was confident that I could still get into January, but I am still waiting for confirmation so like you said, we'll see.

I've heard that Walter Reed (including the name) is moving to Bethesda and that personnel is getting split between Bethesda and Belvoir. I've heard Bethesda is nice--glad to hear Belvoir is, too! Where is Ft Polk? Not sure that I've ever heard of it. Sorry you're not looking forward to it...how long are you active for? What assignment were you hoping to get?

With all sincerity: I'm sorry. I did three rotations through JRTC and mob'ed/de-mob'ed through there. Its a wretched place: both the base and the surrounding community.

Hey Sassysailor, what stations had you originally requested? Nothing near what you thought then, eh? Wondering how my chances are to get Ft Sam! :)

I haven't heard anyone who liked ft. polk or the area. I am praying orders mysteriously change by the time I finish OBLC. First choice: Anywhere in ga

2nd choice: Germany

3rd choice: anywhere in texas.

Very broad, also I currently work as a civlian on a army base in ga (ft. gordon). It may change I have my supervisors here calling and I have met some folks in texas calling. So we will see. However, if they send me to ft. polk I will deal with it. I travel alot its not the end of the world. I signed my contract for 6 years because I got the student loan repayment. Hopefully if God is willing I plan on making it a career I am 30 and haven't saved a dollar towards retirement so as long as AMEDD keeps me I will be there.

From what I have heard the norm is that most people get there 1 to 2 years and then move on after first duty station.

allarmyallthetime22,

good luck to you. One thing about the army they can do whatever they want to do so its possible. Keep me updated I know a handful of people who are going from here.

SassySailor: Hope everything works out for you, too! The military is definitely its own special form of monster at times, but perhaps something will work out. I'll keep you updated & you do the same. Maybe I'll see you at Ft Sam!

Just an FYI for those wondering how to find out what is open for nursing slots and what you can do to make things more favorable to get the duty station you want, or find out your chances of getting what you want, please contact me and I'll walk you through it, its pretty simple. Im prior service AF and Army. Was/is an NCO Gunner and Tank Commander 03-07 2nd Platoon Bravo Co 2-72, got off of active in 07 to come here to UW-Milwaukee to get my 3rd degree. I am 5 months away from graduating with my BSN RN, I already know that my OBLC date is Aug. '11 and I already know my first duty station is Hood. I know the ins and outs of the Army, for me this will be a piece of cake. I suggest for the non-prior service you buddy up and find someone who is prior service bc there is a lot of info you need to know. For me it will be like PLDC, the prior service should be good about helping you out. Im going back in and going the CRNA route. Already spoke to the proper ppl and its all locked up. but yea any one have any questions contact me. I helped someone last year go through everything from start of the application process to her first duty station and allll the stuff in between. And trust me, the recruiter doesnt have your best interest at heart! I personally know a few recruiters and yea the Dark Side is real interesting! Good luck to those going to OBLC at Sham Houston, and no that isn't a misspell lol. Its called Sham Houston for a reason!! lol And always remember NCOs lead the way!! And I may be a nurse and future ArmyCRNA, but will always be a tanker at heart putting steel on target!!

Hi Care&Joy, I got your e-mail but the site is telling me that until I have 15 posts on this site, i am unable to send private e-mails because I am a new member. If you like you can send me your e-mail and I can contact you that way and give you step by step directions. Sorry about the hassle!

I am going for Jan BOLC
