Is kaplan worth it?

Published

i am starting to prepare for the nlcex and was debating whether i should go through kaplan (which cost $500) or should i buy the kaplan book from a store like barnes and noble and study that way? i have the new saunders book already.:nurse:

I personally wouldn't recommend Kaplan but only because of my own personal experience. I'm hoping to take boards next month for the 4th time and I'm currently taking Kaplan for the 4th time also but only because I'm required by the state to take a refresher course. However, I'm taking the class online this time and I like it much more than actually going to their classrooms.

Your experience with Kaplan may differ however I will say that I did see quite a few people re-taking Kaplan as well.

Oh yeah I almost forgot...I bought the Kaplan medication fash cards for roughly $18. I do like those better than others.

the hurst was a great review, i havent heard many things about kaplan to be honest.

Yes, Kaplan is worth it. I say yes because I used every single resource available to me through Kaplan. I watched every second of the content review online, answered every single question and went over every single rationale. I do, think, however, that having an excellent Kaplan instructor also played a large part in my success.

If you are worried about the cost - who isn't? - if you have a job already/or have one in the works, check to see if they will pay for it. My employer did.

I didn't think it was worth it to sit in class and have them read out test questions and go throught their decision tree. I could've done that on my own.

The classes didn't offer any content review, nor did I learn much more than what was in the first few pages of their book.

Well, I just took NCLEX yesterday. Did the Kaplan class, all the Qtrainers, the entire Qbank, watched the videos online, reviewed the book. My test shut off at 75 q's, so I'm hoping I did really well. Personally, I liked Kaplan, and thought the stratagies it teaches you are invaluable, and their questions are at a much higher level of critical thinking than alot of other reivew books I've seen.

But the on-line videos and the "Course Book" are aimed at content review to be done on your own if you need content review. Kaplan is not designed to take up classtime with content.

if money is not hard on you, i think kaplan is best, they will not be a big review center and not a popular one if they are not good. but if money is hard on you, i think you stick to one and believe on it, stick to suzannes study plan which can be found here, no cost at all to have her study plan.:nurse:

Not worth it... They give a good pitch to get graduates interested, but that's about it! I took it and passed the first time, but still believe just about the only positive is their money back guarantee...

Worth every penny in my opinoin. I did every single thing that comes with the course, passed with 75 Qs and found it very similar to Kaplan.

Good Luck!

I am doing kaplan right now and like every other thing its how much you put into it. Yeah I taught that kaplan was a sure pass, but upon attending the class I realized that I still have to review their content either by their online content review or by the book they provided. I believe that they have a lot of good resources, the Q-bank and Q-trainers have tons of review ques that are considered NCLEX styled. They made me understand the nclex exam by revealing to me what is required of me as an entry level nurse. You still have to answer the ques and and review the content that they provide as I mentioned above. The strategies that they provide in the classroom setting can be found on their online resources.

I really liked the Kaplan REview.........instead of going over tons of content, they help you learn how to approach each of the NCLEX style questions....... however, if you do need some content review, they do have an online lecture that goes throught any section of the NCLEX you need to review which is available to you 24/7 from the comfort of your on home.....for example they have all the online content broken up into: safe and effective care, health promotion, psychosocial, and etc.... Also, I had taken the NCLEX once and failed at 275Q's and then I enrolled with Kaplan and just took my boards on Tuesday and the cpu shut off at 75q's and I'm still awaiting my results, however I fell more confident.........I feel as though Kaplan questions were the most like the NCLEX rather than Saunders and others. Good Luck to you!
