IOP Questions

This is typical for IOP. Most IOP programs are at least 8 weeks. Mine was 12 weeks. PHPs (partial hospitalization programs) can be 8 hours a day, but they only last a week, and then you are stepped down to IOP. This is actually an extraordinarily short requirement for IOP hours; your requirement is a bit over 6 weeks, which is pretty brief as far as IOPs go. And 15 hours a week is actually a pretty decently long IOP week as well.

Ok, thank you for cleaning that up! I guess I was confused thinking people on here that mentioned being there 8 hours a day were in IOP. I didn't realize there was a partial hospitalization scenario. Thanks again

I believe my BON requires the eval recommendation to be complete before returning to work but I see a lot of people on here say they were released after x weeks but before their IOP is complete. Do you have any insight there? And who knows, this place may require I go longer, no idea yet since the eval place didn't set it.

I was not allowed to return to work until my IOP was complete.

I was allowed to return to work after about a week into IOP. I had done 4 weeks inpatient first, plus 2 on general psych before that lol. My state allows for a return to work as soon as the treatment providers think it's okay however you still have to complete treatment and fitting 12 hour nursing shifts into IOP can be difficult.

Yeah, I didnt have any inpatient requirement. I did PHP and then IOP, so maybe that's why. But I had to do all 12 weeks. But, my state likes you to be out of work for 3 months to 6 months, regardless of the offense.

I did as many weeks as my insurance would pay for. I think it was a little over three months. I wasn't allowed to return to work until I had my IOP complete (40 hours a week) and my 90 in 90 done. This was after 28 days of an inpatient stay

Cheez, I know I got messed with. What was called PHP for me (was so that they could maximize the bill the few people people that had insurance) was really inpatient. It was like summer camp from hades where you got housed in these nasty apartments ( 4 adult women in a 2 bedroom, 1 bath) in the ghetto and van transported to the actual place every morning. That was 12 weeks.

Then there was IOP which was about 9 hours a week (3 hours, 3 nights) it was nothing more than a rerun of the inpatient crap. That was another 10-12 weeks. At about 7 weeks, they would put in for your contract and think about taking off your ball and chain. My insurance covered none of this. My HMO did not approve of this ****hole. All in all...about $35,000 and almost 6 months

By the time this nightmare ends it will be almost 6 years of my life and career gone. Tell me again why I still want to be a nurse?

As to your actual question, both 'PHP' and IOP consisted of rather silly 'assignments' like my life story where I had to get up in front of a bunch of strangers and do a tell all complete with pictures on paper and lots of highly personal writing that I was also expected to share with said strangers. There were several "groups" run by people whose only qualification was that they'd spent many years in an alcohol/drug induced haze themselves. There was also a lot of sitting around. I got 1 session per week with a therapist (who I think was either interning or just barely out of school herself) and nothing with a psychiatrist. There was no monitoring of my psych meds (did I mention my issues are not addiction but mental health.) Oh, I also titrated my own blood pressure meds based on how I was feeling because thier so-called clinic (run by former patients) wasn't comfortable treating my hypertension yet wouldn't let me leave to go home and see my primary doc.

The hole I was stuck in was a complete fraud so my experience may not be a good comparison.
