I was so happy to have found this board. I was up for the ADON position at our Intermediate LTC facility and thought everything was going well. The DON was giving me extra duties although the ADON position wasn't written in stone just yet....I figured it would be by the end of the year.
Then, a few weeks ago, I noticed an ad in the local paper for the ADON! I was not happy and even called the administrator himself to inquire why there was an ad when I was clearly qualified and showed interest in the position. He told me they were just going through the motions and wanted to have formal interviews...that which I would be a part of. I was told I would be interviewed by next week at the latest.
Yesterday, I'm charting at the desk and the administrator is coming down the hall with a woman who he is showing the 'ropes' to. (I had kept quiet about my desire to be the ADON) so the other nurses were gossiping that this was the new ADON. the DON arrives and talks to one of the other nurses while I decide to go down the hall and see if I can get the admin to tell me who that woman was. He looked me straight in the eye and said it was 'a family member'. I asked which family? He said...no particular family...just a family member checking out the place".
When I got back the floor the other nurses there said she was definitely the new ADON.
Now, here is my dilemma....how can I can have faith in the administration who bold face lies? But more importantly, lying was his first impulse as he knew I 'caught' him in a situation he didn't want to be in. This is a nice catholic nursing home run by nuns who are not from this country. There are rumours that the admin is embezzling as well.
Please, any advise? Are there any authorities I can go to in regards to this man's ethics?
Thank you all so much!

Integrety and administration in same sentence is oxymoron.

I have my BSN + Master's credits, but I have refused all recent administrative positions because the position is synonomous with loss of integrity and ethics. I have seen such rotten administrative dictates in the past few years it would make any real nurse vomit! It is unbelievable what they do to people who are nearing milestones, like being vested in the retirement program or qualifying for full pension. Age discrimination is difficult to prove, but I keep excellent records.

yep its an oxymoron....or maybe just moron:eek: Quit doing all the extra duties esp if they are associated with the ADON position. Sounds like they are just using you. I've been there before and it stinks:(

Poor soul, probably got so disillusioned she left nursing for good. No reason to post here anymore.
