I'm New!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello,

My name is Eric and I'm new to the board. I am currently not a nurse but starting this fall, will start work on my ADN. I then plan on enrolling in MUSC's ADN-BSN program and somewhere in the middle of all that, getting my RN license. After my BSN, I want to specialize in Anesthesia by becoming a CRNA. My ultimate plan is to get a doctorate and become a full fledged Anesthesiologist.

On a personal note, I am 24, married, and the father of an 8 month old little girl. I'm from the Charleston, SC area and love the coast. My hobbies include gourmet cooking and composing instrumental piano music.

Anyway, just wanted to state my career path and introduce myself. Hope to get to know all of you. Best of wishes.

Eric

Welcome aboard Eric! I wish you well in your career. I am not a nurse yet but will be starting school in January. This site can give you wonderful insight on the nursing profession. Once again welcome.

Gerard

Welcome.

Just to update on a few things. You will get a Master's degree, which is required by most states to practice as a CRNA or anesthetist. You can get a doctorate in nursing, but that will not make you an anesthesiologist. To do that you must go to medical school for 4 years and then complete a residency afterwards. You are looking at another 8 years or so.

Specializes in Neuro Critical Care.

Welcome Eric, make sure you check out the student nursing and CRNA threads. Good luck!

I am new also-----and a native South Carolinian! I have a friend who is a CRNA. In South Carolina you have to have a BSN, then have at least one year of experience in critical care, then you can complete a two year CRNA program. I believe they have one in Charleston, but I'm sure you know that. :)

Welcome aboard and good luck with your chosen educational course and career!

Lori

Specializes in Step down, ICU, ER, PACU, Amb. Surg.

Welcome Eric....

Good luck on your future endeavours and I hope that you find a home here among us at allnurses.

Suzanne4,

Did you read the name of the OP? I think they are aware of what they're in for. lol ;)

Hey Eric, I'm a last semester nursing student in my ADN program in Greenville. I plan on either attending Clemson or MUSC online RN-BSN programs in the fall of this year. Anyways, just for your information you have to have 2 years of ICU experience to be eligible for enrollement into MUSC's CRNA program. Anyways, welcome to the board.
