IHP

Is it mandated that you meet with parents? All I need is a signature on the ones that have medications to be given. We have a form for each diagnosis which lists all of the potential actions to be done. I check off the appropriate ones. If I need a signature I send the form home with the student clearly marked where I need a signature from the parent. I also make sure that any parent that brings in an order automatically signs the appropriate IHP form for that diagnosis.

I do know that before my DON provided us with the specific forms for each diagnosis, the IHP situation was quite a mess with nurses copy/pasting 20 page care plans that they found in textbooks. ? With the new system it's a piece of cake, and takes very little time.

I've been here 6 years and we've never done them..but our state "recommends" we meet with parents so they can have input. I do emergency care plans for my students and the LPNs do them as well. It's a lot of the same information, but law allows me to give these to teachers. IHPs are just for me, the parents, and the students. It seems redundant.

I will say that I work in a district with very little parent participation. If I send 20 emergency care plans home, I get one back.

I only do IHPs for those students that have medications/rescue medications to be dosed during school hours.

for some of my students I only use the ECP. it's succinct and covers exactly what that child needs without adding a lot of unnecessary language. Kids that have medical needs that can't be covered by their ECPs get ihps - though i think i only have a handful of those right now.
