If I were the unit manager...

There would be penalties for kissing up to "the boss", and I don't mean Springsteen...

Any nurse caught "eating their own" would face punishment to be decided by so-"eaten"...

The only thing that matters is hard work and patient care. Period, end of story, get out of my office if you're belittling your co-workers!

We're a team. We do our jobs. We take manadatory coffee, bathroom, lunch and humor breaks.

A girl can dream, right?

You go Stitchie!!!!!!!

I know the feeling!!!

Where do I sign up??:roll :chuckle

Sounds like an ideal place to me!!

I would attempt to make the unit a safe, clean, pleasant place to work for my staff. If there are problems with equiptment, I would not "tag it" and let it set for a month, especially if it was a machine staff used often. All requested time off would be evaluated fairly and in a timely manner. NO one nurse would get every weekend off they requested and other staff, especially those with seniority, be told "Nurse Brownnose gets these off, so you will have to work it out with her." Evaluations would be FAIR.

I would insist on a group hug everyday! :)

Our unit manager is the bomb diggety!

She jumped on board as the manager about 8-9 months ago. She was previously one of 'us'..... so she has lots of experience in our unit, with our types of patients and she understands our needs, completely.

She has worked soo hard to get us better staffing, equipment that functions properly... extra of things we were always short on (sand bags, TOF neurostimulators, thermometers, etc....) She started publishing a monthly newsletter to help boost morale.... our unit is the oldest in the hospital, and she lobbied really hard, and got them to refurbish our unit.... and we're currently residing in another unit while our unit gets updated!

I'm not sure she gets a lot of sleep though!

Where do I sign up?

Count me in too TQ!!! Sounds great to me!!

Me too! Me too! Where do we sign? Good for you Trauma Queen. It sounds like you've gone to heaven. Your manager sounds like a miracle in the making, and she has now earned her wings in my heart.

And Stitchie,

Can all those rules be applied to all areas of nursing everywhere? :D

Well, you'd all have to move to Kansas!

She really is wonderful. This is actually kind of funny, because I felt like I was in the 9th grade when I read it. We have had a lot of issues in our unit with nurses talking behind eachother's backs regarding not only work situations, but outside of work situations.... and also lots of nurses being very vocal about hating their assignments, etc... so on...

She actually made a list of agreements that each of us had to review and sign, and violating those terms of the agreement could result in dismissal.... I know, it seems childish, but since then, we've had very few problems with behavior.....They were things like...

I won't belittle my co-workers. If I have an issue with a co-worker that cannot be worked out with them, I will discuss it with my manager, etc....

She's really doing lots of stuff to help make us a more unified unit. :)

I think we should all have those rules applied.

Not at all. The childishness is the gossip, the back biting, the hostility, etc. Your nurse manager is definitely the answer to someone's prayers. She has probably had the same experience, and has gained the wisdom, the knowledge, the understanding, and she has the hutzpah to carry it out. God bless her. Too bad that kind is much much too few and far between. :nurse:

I agree with the other posters .... your manager sounds like a person with some good experience in dealing with people. But isn't a shame that she has to go to the point of having the nurses sign agreements that they won't gossip or talk behind each other's backs. Whatever happen to professional behavior and being a grown-up. Sometimes I feel bad for managers having to deal with all this crap. But thankfully there are managers that can make it better. :uhoh3:
