ICD 9 coding class

Does anyone know of a ICD 9 coding class for home health coming up? Our biller/coder quit and now my boss is wanting one of us Rn to take the class and become the company coder. PLEASE HELP:idea:

From your post we don't know what area you are at. Try your local community colleges. One near me offers these classes in their community outreach program. You can also take these classes in the for profit private schools but the cost is outlandish. Some people have taken the classes online. Also extremely expenseive but you can do it anytime. Try googling on the internet to find classes near you or one of the online courses that you may want to consider. Good luck.

Interested in coding and started doing research. Spoke with Everest College re. their coding program - 8 month program with 8 modules which includes one month internship. Cost is $13,249.00 !! Did not tell the admissions person I am an RN. Just asked if someone had related knowledge could other education be used to reduce length of program. Answer was no, because of being accredited by HLC (higher learning something) they have to do exactly what program specifies. Good to hear there are community college classes and other resources! Thanks to all who provided helpful info!

Check with Decision Health or PPS plus. They may have classes in an area near you and at a decent rate 300-500 dollars. Try that first. Your state home care association could sponsor them and charge agencies to attend the classes. Check with them also. Do not go to any college or do an online class. You would be giving money away. Don't fall for that hype. Remember, coding takes practice. A class will make you way more knowledgeable than you are now, but don't expect to come out of your first class an expert.

my guess would be that they will eventually want the nurses to do that...without additional pay...in addition to their other tasks...so that the owner doesn't have to pay a proper coder...

ok I admit, I am a bit jaded when it comes to home health where it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.
