I suck

Published

:oI am so mad at myself right now. I have an online Statistics class. I have taken many online classes and have excelled. This class sucks. I just got a 68 on my first test. I've aced the quizzes and pretty much failed the test. My professor is no help to any of the students and we are basically teaching ourselves. For the most part everyone failed or got D's. I'm not sure what I should do..We use the TI 83 and that's hard enough. I thought a calculator was suppose to make math simpler..Yeah right! LOL I just needed to vent and my BF was sick of hearing me..Thanks

I'm so sorry. *hugs* I have not had Statistics, but I hear it is challenging to say the least. Are there any additional resources you could use, like does your textbook have a study guide or a website with additional quizzes, etc/ for practice? Maybe a study group might help. Also, check with your college, they may have tutoring available. My school offers 2 hrs per week for free, tutors are students who have done well in the class previously.

I was experiencing a similar thing with my online Economics class. there is basically no instruction, we are expected to learn all the material, take two online quizzes, then take an exam at the testing center at school for each segment. I did fine on the first quizzes, then got a C on the first exam. I aksed about transferring into an on-camups class, but no dice. So, I bought a study guide from the textbook publisher (from their website) and it has made all the difference in the world. I got an A on the midterm.

I have taken online classes where the instructor sends "lectures" and outlines to us, but this class is ALL me. I basically have to be my own instructor. So I totally understand.

Good luck!!!

Oh, and my 9th grade son uses a TI 83 and Holy Cow!! That thing is like a little mini computer! He plays games and draws pictures, and darn near everything except math on it LOL But he's a total nerd guy so he gets it...I hope he can show me how to use it if I get to that point.

I also has a stats class online. It was very very hard and my prof was no help. What helped me a lot was going to a tutor. Good luck!!!

Oh, my dh took statistics online, well he took ALL his classes online for his bachelor's degree - and statistics was the ONLY class he wasn't successful in. He ended up re-taking it in person, and passing . . . although I don't remember his grade, I know it wasn't an A. Statistics is hard, evidently! Luckily I didn't have to take it as a prereq.

Good luck!

I took Statistics last semester online and failed it. It was awful. Seriously one of those classes they really shouldn't offer online. I will be taking it in person next semester and I'm really not looking foward to it. I feel your pain trust me. I can only suggest getting a tutor and emailing the professor like crazy with questions. Good luck

This professor is not the greatest. When you email her a question you normally don't get a response your looking for. She is no help whatsoever. We are basically on our own with this class. A few of the students are going to the dean tomorrow to talk about it. It's awful. I've never had an online professor who wasn't helpful. I'm just going to study harder for the next test and see how I do. I just want to pass the class.

oh man! don't give up tho! look into an on campus tutor, our college has a math lab in the library, if it wasn't for that I'd have bombed stats big time, somehow I managed to squeak out a B, keep plugging away and practicing!

Oh, what a drag. Your thread title isn't fair to yourself, though!

It MUST be the instructor, because I am taking stats (on campus) and the teacher is so wonderful, the class seems really, really easy. She's such a good teacher I have made sure I will have her for Algebra, and fortunately she teaches Calc, too! I don't think I could handle an online math class.
