congratulations new rn!!! :balloons: :)

as far as working on med-surg, i say go for it if it's what you want to do. if not, go with your heart. i decided not to work med-surg myself, so i'm off to the women's unit in about 2 weeks. good luck!!!

Congratulations!! I originally didn't want to work Med/Surg, I want to go into L & D, but where I am they are not currently hiring new grads so I chose to work in Neuro/Trauma. I'm hoping to get a lot of learning and skills experience there. I am in orienation this week and my first day on the floor will be Tuesday. Good luck with your decision!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will start on MS floor next Monday. I originally wanted my dream position in oncology but decided that if I did 6 mos-yr or so of MS that I could then go just about anywhere in the hospital. I liked MS during clinicals so I don't think that it will be a problem with it for me. I know it will be trying for a long time to come but I am ready for the challenge!! Good luck in whatever you choose to do and guess what? YOU PASSED!!!

Congratulations!

HOORAY for you! Isn't it a great feeling? I just got my license after studying for several months a little bit at a time. My license was an 8-year-retake since I had let my license lapse.

I would never go back to med/surg but I would recommend it for you. It will give you so many skills and confidence if you were going to start in another area.

Good, good, luck to you.

Congratulations! You are one determined nurse that is alot of studying! Why would you not want to return to med/surg can you fill me in on what I should expect. I feel so nervous right now and hope that I can do it. Thanks for your response.

That is a good plan Im sure that you will do great! Congratulations!

Congratulations to you!! :w00t:

I agree with the others .... I think going into med/surg to start with would be great! If you really want to get into another area to start with, some places hire new grads into those specialty areas, but it's just up to you, go with what you really want to do. Med/surg would be a great place to start though, I think it's a specialty all in it's own and would be a great experience. Good luck in whatever you decide :)

Don't mean to discourage you. I think med/surg is a very basic teaching. I think it prepares you for a lot of other things. I just got tired of it. Not that I knew everything. But my first job was a teaching hospital and it was just terrific and at the time I went to hospital nursing, I guess I was bored with it after working at the teaching hospital. I really enjoyed agency nursing because there are so many specialties that you could be sent to.

Good luck and best wishes. You won't regret doing your time in med/surg.
