I agree with the other poster that you need to verify the order first, since inserting an IV is a collaborative nursing task.

Answer for school is going to be B. Verify the order for IV therapy. However, once you're out of school, the answer will be A. Identify a suitable vein. I'm not sure how it is at other places, but in my unit we start IV's when we need them, no M.D. order necessary.

Thanks a lot...

We are happy to help with homework and these members have been very nice to give you the answer.....but it is our goal for you to be the best nurse you can be and giveing you the answer, doing it for you, is not the best way to help you.

What class is this for? What semester are you? How long have you been an ER nurse?

Same in the ER. Technically we need an order, but for something like this, getting an order is never a problem (definitely not the school answer).

Of the question like this: If there are two or three options that both make sense, ask yourself "would it make sense if I did it the other way around?"

So for this question, would it make sense to find a good vein and then go verify the order to insert an IV? When you do go verify the order, you'll just have to find the vein again, right?
