I am a newly licensed nurse...I can't afford the expenses needed to take an NCLEX exam and review..what would be my best choice?? if I apply to Canada, will it be easier compared to USA?? tnxtnx!!

Specializes in NICU.

i suggest you get experience as a nurse in the philippines first, at least for a year, and then look for an agency that could sponsor you. i heard there are agencies who sponsor international exams if they find you qualified. about the review, it is not necessary to enroll in a review center, you can review on your own and save money. good luck.

I think I replyed to your other thread, what about not taking the review (I know that is expensive) and just taking the exam? I just read through and answered questions in Saunders book before taking the test without the actual review and did well.

Ahh ok...I think I'll just work first in a tertiary hospital, hopefully, and develop my skills further then I'll take the exam.. I hope I can fulfill my dreams of working there someday and become a succesful nurse in the US...Im thinking, Are there also necessary exams pre requisites in order to apply a job in Canada??

thank you very much and Godbless....

I think there's better opportunities for you in US than Canada. Inquire at Canada Board of Nursing, I believe you need to take additional refresher course here, which will spend you more money, before you can land a job. Email the state board where you want to work and ask for guidance.

I work for a hospital in the US that sponsors nurses from other countries with a work visa. You must first have a year in any type of work, floor, hemodialysis, tele, ICU before hire. Our salary is very good for the cost of living, but I believe they only give $1500 for relocation.

In nursing, experience is the hiring point with negotiation. If you get some locally and save some $ you'll be in a good position for either the USA or Canada. I'm assuming you have job opportunities, although not as generous as here.

Hello there. I was just reading your thread and I know how expensive totake review classes for your NCLEX, but I would suggest you ask different agencies which country will be willing to petition you and absorb your expenses. I'm a graduate here in Chicago, USA and I believe there are hospitals out here who will hire and petition you, but

you need to pass your CGFNS and TOEFL as far as I know. You need to review though coz that will help a lot. Don't worry, if you come here in the US-you'll make up for your expenses w/o any problem(assuming you'll work hard). By the way, can I ask you for a favor since you're a graduate of the Philippines. I'm currently enrolled in my MSN and we're

discussing nursing issues from our respective countries. Would you be willing to be corresponding w/ me just for the above mentioned? I really need your help. Thanks in advance.Hope my suggestion help. Not to familiar w/ Canada's policy on foreign graduates so I suggest to

look into US. If you have any questions, please send a private message instead.

since you just passed the local board examination in the phils. You need to start reading saunders comprehensive and practice more q and a, so that you have the foundation in nclex review while waiting for the agency whos willing to help you, or while looking for a job.

Please don't waste your time or your money on any of the review courses offered for the NCLEX. I took Kaplan and I feel it was a big waste of money. The only thing that was maybe a little helpful was the q-bank. Saunders works quite well as a review bank and the cd that comes with it has tons of questions also.
