I can't do this...not tonight. I'm so frustrated. Every drop of energy I have is gone. Once I learn a new concept and become comfortable with it, something new pops up and throws me off. If I could personify math, just for one minute, this is what I would do....:trout:Father....please help me. In the meantime, I'm going to bed.
this should cheer you up
OMG how I feel your pain! I have struggled with almost every part of math since grade school and it literally seems to suck the life right out of me every time I attempt to work out math a problem.Quite often I feel like I may just have a learning disability but the kicker is that I'm great in almost every other subject....ahhhhh! I took my entrance exam Tuesday and flunked the math so bad(basic math) that the director even said so,I'm re-taking it Thursday and I WILL pass this time.Try not to fret about it too much cuz it will only hold us back more and if we want this bad enough we will do what it takes, right? Keep your head up,possibly seek tutoring like I am and we'll get through this together :)
Better learn to deal with this now....lol....nursing school is like that and MORE!! It seems like just when I catch my breath and think, suddenly there's stuff flying in from all directions and I'm just trying to hold on and catch and retain what I can!! Hang in there!!
Great point. This is why I know I can't give up. Math is a very difficult subject for me. When I see numbers, I freeze! Having lots of information to absorb have never bothered me. Math has always bothered me. I just absolutely hate it. But you are right. I just gotta get over it, deal with it, and overcome the challenge. Thanks!

Math was never my BEST subject, but I found I did quite a bit better in college than I had done in high school; more motivation, I guess...I always found it so comforting after working with subjective classes like English or a Psych class....it was so black and white -- right or wrong, period...it was a bit of a release for my brain...
On the plus side for you, I see this is the pre-nursing forum....the majority of math in nursing is not that difficult once you understand the concept...that being said, we just started doing some more advanced IV math -- ugh!!
When you've got a break, and some down time, I'd highly recommend a book like Calculate with Confidence to work through before you're in nursing school. With everything else that you'll be learning and expected to do, if you can get some of that anxiety off your plate, you'll be ahead of the game!! If you have trouble working through it alone, see if there's a dosage class or someone who's got a lot of algebra smarts to help walk you through it...it's not that difficult, but I'm also not a good 'reading' learner....I needed someone to "show" me how to do these initially, then I could breeze through them or at least figure out when I had glitch what was wrong....
Best wishes!!
I used to teach math in high school and I've had some success tutoring people who hate it. Sometimes they find it's the way it's been taught and they're actually good at it. I'd be happy to chat or even do some help over the phone if any of you are interested. Just let me know.Regards!
Thank you. How nice of you to offer your math talents. I surely could use them. I have a math final coming up in about three weeks. I'll contact you if I need any assistance. Thanks again.
