I HATE asking this question!!!!

So I was accepted into a LPN program and I have decided to go forward and start it with the hopes of eventually bridging over into a RN program(if I have to wait a few years well fine atleast I will be doing someting I love, & there seems to be some pretty good online programs out there to)

Ok, now to the dreaded question....I have been looking in several places for salary in Colorado, Washington, & Oregon. I KNOW I am not going to make as or even close to a RN but I have heard some LPN's making 10-12 dollars a hour:uhoh21: I was really hoping to make ATLEAST 16

Can ANYONE please give me any insight. I really am hoping that I will not be making 10 dollars a hour:(

Well I just graduated and passed my boards and so far with my job interviews the lowest I have been offered is 15.50 higest is 24 and that is for the weekend shift on 3rd.

Depends on where you live - can get $15 in Indiana in most places.

I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area of Texas and have only seven months of experience working as an LVN, yet I earn $18.50 hourly at a nursing home. Most LVNs in DFW, Texas who work LTC earn in the wage range of $17 to $23 per hour dependent upon experience.

It is very true that some LPNs/LVNs earn $10 to $11 per hour. Facilities in rural Oklahoma and rural Arkansas pay poorly; in addition, Mississippi and other deep Southern states are not known to pay their LPNs well. I know a recent LVN graduate who found a hospital job in San Angelo, Texas at the pay rate of $11.00 per hour to start.

I agree it all depends on where you live and what type of work you do. Most hospitals pay less than long term care facilities. The hospitals where i live start out at $12.80. The job I have now is in LTC and I started out at $18/hour plus one dollar extra on the weekends. Shift preference also makes a difference. Most times 2nd shifters make more than other shifts because that is the hardest shift to fill. Doctors offices in my area start at around $8-10/hour.

I would agree it depends on where you live. I live in MD and LPN here earn $17-22/ hour. After you gain some experience you might want to consider working for an agency part or full-time. Our agency LPNs here in MD make $28-32/hour. :nurse:

Like every else is saying, it all depends in the state you live in and which facility you are going to work. But in my situation, it depends on your work experience and your speciality. In my case I work for one of the Tenent Hospitals in California. My specialty is Medical Surgical and I earn $24./hr, 12hr shifts, 6days for pay period and having 4 days offs, its awsome! Not too bad for an LVN in Orange County.

But I would most definelty work at a hospital. You get more experience and you learn a lot than working at a nursing home. The more you are experienced the better pay. And if dont agree with the pay, you can always go somewhere else, nurses today are such in great high demand. !!Best wishes!!
