HURST or KAPLAN??? Trying to decide

Published

Help! Which one do you think is better and why? Thanks for any input. Both were at our school. (Graduate in May). I really liked Hurst but I just want to make sure I choose wisely. Cannot afford both. Thanks again!

I purchased both because I couldn't decide. Hurst was excellent in helping me understand the foundation. Hurst also provided practice questions and a mock nclex. I wish i had known about hurst when I was in school. However, Kaplan was helpful because the questions were analysis type questions, so, eve though I purchased the full review with kaplan, I only did the questions. I took nclex recently and passed with 75 questions. Due to Hurst nclex was easy to me.

When I graduated one of my teachers recommended a Kapplan book. I bought the book at barnes and noble for around $35. It went through strategies for the NCLEX. I liked it a lot. I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions in an hour. Hope this helps.

If you've looked at both products, pick the one that looks like it will be most helpful to you. I would go with the Kaplan Q bank if I only had limited funds.

Kaplan Q bank all the way! Kaplan isn't a content review course. It reviews using analysis type questions similiar to NCLEX. I really liked it. I passed with 75 Questions.

hi is the kaplan qbank that 7-part question test??

No. The 7 part question series are the question trainers. The qbank offers a lot more questions. I used Kaplan but didn't make use of the qbank so don't know much about it. I did feel the question trainers were very helpful though and would recommend them to anyone! Some don't think so but the guided review of questions was also great for me. I ran out of study time so only did a couple of chapters but I think doing more would have been worth my time.

Thanks everyone! I have decided on Hurst. I really liked their format when they were out at the school.

Yes..I like Hurst too,but you will also need to know about prioritize, delegation and infection control for nclex.

I have taken both Hurst and Kaplan.

The Kaplan live and online reviews were provided to our school with no cost out of pocket to the students, as the school was paying for everyone to attend. Kaplan, in my opinion, is a good review of strategies for answering difficult questions. It is not a good content review by any stretch of the imagination, but it is an excellent review of test-taking skills and ways to approach pesky NCLEX style questions.

My friend and I paid to attend the Hurst live review earlier this month. The Hurst Review is a wonderful review of basic content, which is what my friend and I felt we really needed. The Hurst Review spent relatively little time going over strategies for answering NCLEX style questions, but they spent days going over the content that every person should know in order to pass NCLEX.

If you feel that you need a content review, go with Hurst. If you feel that you need a review of stretegic test-taking skills, go with Kaplan.

I DEFINITELY need CONTENT review!

I think a combination of several books is best. The important point is that you are going through questions containing the "hot topics" and that majority of questions are implementation, assessment, and analysis.
