Huron School of Nursing?

Anyone know anything about the program or is anyone attending it now??

I live in Indiana right now, but I'm from Cleveland, and my mom has been employed by the Cleveland Clinic for almost 20 years. They have a smartloan program that is for employees of the clinic for their immediate families-and my mom would be able to take out these loans and if I worked for Cleveland Clinic after I graduate, I would only have to pay back a small portion of them.

Anyway, I want to look into this and see if this program is a realistic option for me since my husband and I would have to move back to Ohio. So I'm just curious if anyone can tell me anything about it. Thank u!

Yes it is very realistic but the only catch is having to work at CCF for so long. But for some that is ok.

I am in the program right now. I think it's a good program. It has it's problems, but they all do. It's convenient because they have an evening weekend program and a day program. I needed E/W since I work full time. I think you only need to work two years for the Clinic after you graduate. That's not that long.

Well, we decided to go ahead and move back to Cleveland so that I can do this program. I gather that I need to go to Tri-C first and complete pre-reqs before I can apply to Hurons program.

Any information that anyone can give me on the program would be VERY helpful. Things like how many days you're in class (I have to work while going to school, so this is important), what is the schedule like for night and weekend classes, is there any kind of wait list for the program, etc. etc.

Also, how long does it take most people to complete these programs, because I was under the assumption that it's a two year thing because it's an associates degree, but somewhere in the literature I've read, it says something about 4-5 years? If it takes that long, I should just look into a bachelors degree program. I don't know...anyway, so yeah, the more info everyone can give me, the better! Thank you!!

It depends on if you have taken any college courses yet. I had some classes under my belt when I started. But yes, I have been in school since 2003 and I will graduate in 2008. You can compare the program with a BSN, but i think a BSN will take you even longer going part time if you have to continue working. All I know is it has sped by so fast, and i will be out in a year. I can't wait.

I am also a student at Huron. (for 12 more days :yelclap: :yeah: ) .. the thing is, if you don't have a degree already, you have to get one from Tri-C, or from Notre Dame College.

These are the TRI-C CLASSES THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE BEFORE YOU BEGAN @ HURON:

BIO 1100 - Introduction to Biological Chemistry

-OR-

CHEM 1010 - Introduction to Inorganic Chemistry

BIO 2330 - Anatomy & Physiology I

BIO 2340 - Anatomy & Physiology II

ENG 1010 - College Composition I

MATH 1000 Level or higher

PSY 1010 - General Psychology

The other classes that are needed for an Associates Degree can be taken WHILE you attend Huron... BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND taken as many courses as you can before you start your nursing courses. Huron takes up a lot of your time.

it has the program completed in 4 semesters. We attended for a total of 5 semesters so the curriculum has changed & they do things a little different now.

And jaylynn67 is right, time has gone by pretty fast.

Does anyone know if there is a wait list at Huron? I'm looking for an alternative to waiting a year at Lorain County Community College.

Is there a work requirement for the Clinic if you attend Huron?

Huron does NOT have a waiting list. Just gota have your prereq's completed.

Also,.... there is NO connection with The Cleveland Clinic as far as work is concerned. (They just own the place :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: )

There is not a work requirement for attending Huron School.

Only a year wait at LCCC?? Last I heard it was a 2-3 year wait for clinicals, I know that some people misunderstood and it was eligible in one year. Better make sure.

I just graduated from Huron this May, the program is not bad. Like all it has some minor glitches. One positive is that they are adding a program at Southpointe hospital as well which may lessen the wait/include more opportunities.

I don't know anything about the nursing program, but I use to work there as an E.R. Tech and the neighborhood is SCARY...

Examples:

1) I had a brick thrown at my car for no reason and it dented my trunk

2)someone tried to get in my car at a red light thank god the door was locked, but I had to go through the red light to get away from him

3) a mob of young men (a gang) surrounded my car at a stop sign w/ misc. objects in their hands and I thought I was a dead woman (I decided to floored it and pray).

4) One of the surgeons was stabbed after work while walking across the street, because he wouldn't give up his wallet

5) My mother is low income and living in East Cleve. last year as was robbed at gun point

SOOOOOOOOO......personally, I would never work there again!
