How are your summer classes going?

Just wanted to see how everyone's summer classes are. My advanced oncology nursing class is half over & it is soooo much work since it is only 7 weeks long. I already had a 55 question exam (got an A!!!:) Yippee skippee!!), a short paper, gave a presentation this week, have a term paper and a separate group project due in 2.5 weeks, have another test in 2 weeks, and have had to read a gazillion papers on everything possible related to cancer and all the diff. types of cancer as well as multiple chapters in 3-4 diff. texts each week. My head is seriously spinning. But I will be happy once it is over, because I am learning a lot, and also my elective course will be out of the way.

I am ~1/3 way through Advanced Pharmacology. I think it is going pretty good, but no tests yet (later this week). It's my first online class and the first in the FNP program I am taking. Our online discussions have been good, the group is great to work with. I am very glad to be getting this one over with, since next summer I will have another class and clinical! It's been an experience, guaranteed to only get more interesting! ;)

Halfway through online Advanced Pathobiology...

Very interesting and soooo much reading so far!

Im half way through Advanced Pathophysiology. Im so sick of reading!!!!

Our 2nd test is on July 12. It is on 16 chapters. The summer semester is way too short for this amt of information, esp since it is so critical to our practice. The first test was 15 chapters. I made a B on it. The lowest I have ever made since starting the program a yr ago. The instructor put the stats up for the test............. the class avg for the first test was a 77.

Of course there were some people who were not happy with the test, most of them being first semester in the program. The instructors comment: "Welcome to grad school."

I'm getting nervous reading this because I'm taking advanced patho this fall along with theory/research and another intro to APN practice class. I'm preparing myself for all the reading I know I will have. At least the material is interesting and very useful though. :)

Wow...I can't imagine taking patho or pharm in the summer. Even in a regular semester I spent about 25-35 hours per WEEK on the reading and the extra classes that were required. Hang in there !

Due to some personal issues that our instructor is having we just discovered that the ONLY test we will be having in my Adv Pharm class will be a cumulative take home towards the end of the semester! Yikes, I just hope I am getting something out of the mountains of reading that I am doing! :uhoh3:

That just doesn't sound right or fair to anyone. Too bad they can't find someone to at least proctor a regular test.

I am taking advanced health assessment over the short summer term and it is way too much information for too short a time! plus we have the added stress of having to find sites to do an OB observation day and an observation day with a radiologist. Not to mention having to find the time for them!!!! I got the OB one done, just need a radiologist that will return calls and spend time with students. Good luck to everyone! I just realized that I am over 1/3 of the way through the program!

I am so excited!! I just completed my first graduate nursing school class: advanced oncology nursing. It was very intense, but an overall good class. Now I only have 11 more classes left to take and I'll have my MSN and NP!! :)

I'm working on my independent study that will allow me to opt out of one of my fall courses - I finish up with it at the end of July. At least I'll only have one course to take in the fall instead of two - yay! Any little thing to make the program more doable for me helps!

Halfway through Professional and Faculty Roles, waaayyyy too much reading for summer time. Doing well so far, but have a paper due in 2 weeks that is 30% of my grade, guess I'd better get started on it. Rather hang around on allnurses!

I'm almost ready to conclude that summer semester is going to suck regardless of what class one is taking. Not only do we have the burden of having an entire semester of information crammed into just a few weeks, but we also have to deal with our kids and friends wanting to "play"...and this summer it has been so hot for so much of the time, it is just plain hard to get focused!

But hey, I am midway through and so far have an A gradewise. I can't complain too much, I guess.

Everyone has said that this is the hardest course of the program...even the students a year ahead of us. I am just thankful that I took patho last summer and do not have to deal with both classes- that would really put me over the edge right now.

Congrats to all....keep up the good work!
