How are you preparing?

I know we're all buying books, uniforms, stethoscopes, etc., but I was wondering what lifestyle changes new nursing students are making in an effort to prepare for school.

I'm going to be working full time, so I am trying to think of ways to streamline and save time wherever I can. I am planning portable healthy meals and snacks that don't take a long time to prepare; I am scheduling days/times to call family members and friends so I don't lose touch with everyone who isn't a colleague or fellow student. I've scheduled a trial run with a cleaning service, in hopes of having them come twice a month while I am in school and working (and my husband will step up and take on more than his fair share of laundry, dishes, cooking, etc.). Lastly, I'm cutting my hair -- I have very long hair, which takes time to care for; I am going to cut and donate my hair and go with a short, low-maintenance style.

What are you doing to prepare for nursing school?

I have gotten ready by doing things last year to get us (my husband and I) not working starting this fall. Worked out better than plan and he quit working in June. I don't work besides tutoring. We applied to scholarships and have enough from them and stipends to not work and go to school. We also moved from the house we were to a more energy efficient home. We are all moved in and I am ready for school to start. I feel very lucky and blessed that everything worked out so well. The other things we did to prepare for the school year is scheduled everyone dentist and medical appointments to make sure everyone is up to date on shots and cleanings. That was the biggest things we did to prepare for school. Good luck everyone!!!!
