How to be prepared

Put as much $$ away as possible so you can cut back hours while in school. If you haven't worked healthcare..find a job in that. It could lessen the "culture shock" of what nurses REALLY do.

Yup...I would say that my hospital tech job made me MUCH more comfortable interacting with patients, knowing what the different lingos meant, seeing what the nurses actually do, learning about the general guidelines, learning what to do/not do for certain patients....

example: One time on the floor(after I started working) another student came to me to say his patient was NPO, but they brought him a liquid tray...what to do? Umm, take everything away! was my answer......Had I not been a tech, I don't think I would have known something so simple. You can always get more if you need it.

Also, save what you can, find others from the program, and SHARE your resources....it is the best way to save the green! Good luck!

First off, CONGRADULATIONS!!

Defintiely get a job in the health care feild. If not as a tech/NA then as a unit secretary. If the program you are going into does not require medical terminology, nursing math, or nutrition, take them now. A class in critical thinking would not hurt either. Spend time with your family and doing the things that you enjoy, because once youhave started classes there is little, if any time for that.
