How NP programs view WGU?

Hi!

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before- I am interested in the online RN to BSN program at WGU, but have concerns about the future- if, someday, I decide to pursue being an NP, will thise programs "look down" upon an online degree from WGU?

I'm an LPN who is graduating with my RN next month and am looking into online RN to BSN programs. I live in NYC and am wondering if anyone has insight into this- Also, someday if I move to Texas or California, will I run into problems being hired due to accreditation issues? Or if I decide to become an NP down the road, do NP programs accept WGU? Please let me know if anyone has any insight into employer/NP Program attitudes regarding this.

Feel free to bump this to the appropriate place if need be, I am new to this site.

Thank you!

In regards to accreditation, you should not run into any issues as WGU is CCNE accreditated. FYI- they have a pre-licensure program in CA and Texas so obviously, these state nursing boards don't have issues with the curriculum.

It would depend on the NP program you want to attend. WGU's grading scale is on a PASS/ FAIL basis, which upon graduation translates into a 3.0. Some schools will accept it, others will not. If you browse the WGU FB groups there are several graduates who have gone on to reputable NP programs.

I had no problem getting into my first choice PMHNP program with my WGU RN to BSN. Wilkes University. A representative at Regis also suggested my application looked good, but I stopped my application process once I took a seat at Wilkes.

WGU is great. Good luck!

You could probably get into a noncompetitive type of NP schools that accept tons of student, but charge private school rates. I graduated with my BSN from WGU and got in at Columbus state university in Georgia, but I hear they are much more competitive now so I don't know if you could compete with the 4.0 grads that are applying there.

Here in Indiana- WGU grads are in NP and other MSN and DNP programs from University of Indianapolis, Indiana Wesleyan, Purdue, University of Southern Indiana, Indiana State and many, many other well-respected schools.

I was accepted into three different DNP programs (not advanced practice) with my WGU degree.
