How long did it take ?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey allnurses ! I am currently a pre-nursing student who spends alot of time on this website. I was curious on how long it took everyone to become a registered nurse and what was your biggest motivation out of it all ?

It’s taking me a LOT longer than most people. I originally wanted to go straight for my BSN and finished all but one pre requisite in 2.5 years. That last pre req was physio which I failed, I re took it and got a C it. This disqualified me from every BSN nursing program in my area (needed all A’s and only one retake allowed on all science classes) and devastated, I dropped out of school and went into a deep depression, I was very lost. I did a 3 month part-time program to be a CNA and worked at a nursing home for about a year. There, I heard of another program which was an ADN program which I could still qualify for if I scored high enough on the HESI so I applied, got accepted and started 6 months later. 2 years later, I finished the program, studied for about a month and took the NCLEX yesterday. So total about 6 and a half years for an ADN and I have 9 classes left/ one year to get my BSN which I will be doing online. Better late than never though.

I applied to nursing school my senior year of high school. I entered a BSN program in 2015 and just graduated this past May. Took me 4 years!

My biggest motivation probably came from my patients in clinical/my internship. The people you meet and stories you become a part of are life-changing and really affected my view on the world. I changed a lot in nursing school, but I don't regret it! I came to realize how much just your presence can make on others. It's really an honor to be a part of someone's darkest/private times in their lives. You really can make a difference ?

I graduated from high school in 2015. Took my prerequisites at a CC and graduated from there May 2017 with an associate's degree; I would've graduated sooner but I was hoping to get in a BSN program which had more prerequisites. I missed the deadline for that year to apply for the BSN program so I decided to apply to like 5 ASN program. I got in to most of them and I went with the closest one from my house. I just graduated in May. I took the nclex may 23 and was issued my license within a week. I will be starting a RN - BSN program in August. ? I guess it took me 4 years to become a nurse.

Started pre-reqs in fall of 2014, then I began a paramedic to ADN bridge course in spring of 2018. I just graduated May 10th, and began working as a GN in a local ER on May 20th. I took the NCLEX May 29th and had my RN license the next week. I plan to start a RN-BSN program next spring. My motivation through it all was to leave EMS after spending thirty years in it.

Wow,thank you guys for commenting and congratulations to you all! I always like to hear everyone's story and the reality of how rigorous it can be to get into a nursing program. Your guys responses were truly inspiring!
