How do I get an interview???

Published

Hey ya'll,

So, I'm new to the site and in need of HELP!! I am a new grad, passed the NCLEX in Jan. and have applied for about 25 new grad/no experience required jobs- cover letter and resume with the last 12-15 (forgot about cover letters because I was soooo excited about applying for jobs). Yet, I have heard NOTHING except "your application has not been selected, good luck." How do I get a phone call or interview???

My husband is in the Marines and we moved to Charleston, SC in November. I graduated from UNCW in NC, so I do not have clinical experience in any of the hospitals down here nor do I know anyone that can help me get my "foot in the door." I have read from many other posts that it is difficult to get a nursing job here, but I need one because I can't move!

I have been in touch with nurse recruiters and tried to get hiring managers names/numbers/etc. but they can't give that information out. I have applied to MUSC, All the Roper St. Francis hospitals, Trident, East Cooper and I'm working on the VA hopsital if I can find the application :). Anyone know how to find jobs for the naval clinics? I have looked/googled everything I can think of- my brain is fried!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a million and have a great evening!:redbeathe

Well, I can tell you that you are in hot competition with probably a thousand or two new grads... or more. Some still from even May/Dec. 2009! That's not to mention all the foreign students who come here and then take the NCLEX... have no idea how many of those.

So. You are not by any means alone. Try any idea you have. Many, many posters here on Allnurses are in the same boat with ya.

Start doing volunteer work. You will make connections.

As above poster pointed out, volunteering would be a great way to get a foot in the door. Good luck! :)

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Start applying to LTC, home health, American Red Cross, Hospice.. anywhere and every where....always use a cover letter to make nice.. and like others have said welcome to the new grad/no job club.. Good luck.

Most of the hospitals on base will not take new grads (there are a few that do take civilian new grads, but it's the big ones like Bethesda or Balboa). Have you tried Military to Medicine? They are supposed to help spouses and veterans get jobs in health care. It's free, so it's worth a try. Good luck- my husband is AD USMC, too, and we PCS'd right after I took the NCLEX, so I know what it's like applying in an area you are totally unfamiliar with. =)

Specializes in Ask away I shall tell.

Hey Jen,

I went through help myself on this one, I needed interview techniques and making contacts. What had helped me is this website: http://www.applern.com These guys are awesome! they helped me build my resume and contacts remotely. You can check them out if you like.
