Hello,
I'm a first year student, who've just finished my first nursing course ever... which is fundamentals of nursing. The class was 7 weeks long... two clinical weekends, one care plan, one paper, and 3 exams. It was alot, but I made it through the first class. The first 2 exams I got a 90... however the last exam was pretty tough and I got an 83. Today we start the second 7 week course, which is common health problems, pharmocology, nutrition, IV therapy, oncology, dying, and so on and so forth. I'm very exited to learn even more, however I'm a little nervous about the drug calc. exam next week( not too good with math). We need an 80 to pass, and only have two attempts. Anyway, how did your first course go ? Are you going to do anything different this time around ? Would love to hear your 2 cents:twocents:

Hi!!! Congrats!!! A word of advice ...burn the conversions in your head!!! That is what bit me. I missed the 80 cut off by 4 pts I score a 76....so I have to reapply and start Nursing 110 all over again next year because of that.
I will... alot of people have been saying this on the forum. In addition to memorizing the table... I'm doing at least 10 problems a day until the test next week, I also plan to meet with a tutor for extra support in guidance. Practicing the problems everyday is giving me more confidence for the exam. But ur right, I need to get off this computer and start looking at that table again.

I am still in my first nursing course, fundamentals, but it is a whole semmester long, and I'm also taking pharmacology too.
You are lucky you got two chances to take the pass/fail test! We only got one chance. My math exam was not too bad. My advice is to just know the equalencies...like 1 oz=30 mL, 60kg=1grain, 1kg=2.2lbs and things like that. Also, just memorize the formulas and really read the questions and make sure you know what they are asking!
Good luck to you!

I was told during orientation that "only half the class passed Fundamentals last year". Apparently they changed it because even those that were about to fail three weeks ago are now either passing or only have to make a certain grade on their final to pass. I really busted my butt trying to make good grades, but with all of the thrown out questions and bonus points etc, I honestly wish now that I had spent less time stressing over it. I practically failed my gen ed class figuring that if I made it through fundamentals I could catch up, only to find that I got a great grade in fundamentals and should have just worked on my gen ed class grade instead.
ah well, live and learn. New teacher for our 2nd quarter now though so I have to learn her style all over again.

Are these LPN courses? I am in school for RN and in our first semester, we had a quiz at least twice a week, 4 exams, 1 dosage exam-pass/fail, a blooodborne pathogen exam, clinicals, a health fair, one 4 hour lab a week with a total of 10 skills assessments - all pass/fail AND a final. There is a book out there called Dimensional Analysis for Meds. You can get it on Amazon for about $30.00. It was a required text in my course. Buy it and use it. It makes the whole process easy. Do not forget to play the CD in the back of the book. I am sure that after about 30 minutes with the CD, DA will be a breeze.
