How competitive is your Nursing program?

The program I'm trying to get into in the Fall accepts up to 80 students every Jan and Aug out of the 300 that apply. You have to have all of your pre-reqs done (which is why I think a lot of people get turned down), and they use the NET and your GPA for admission. They used to have interviews but they don't anymore. Not sure if that is going to work for me, or against me :chuckle

Similar to yours except that there are only 49 spots for 300+ applicants :stone .

You must have all the pre-reqs done and the NLN pre-entrance exam, as well as your healthcare provider course, physical and vaccines. There are no interviews, just a 1000 word essay, 3 letters of reference, volunteer work, work experience in the field (if any), GPA, and most importantly (for the school) how many classes you have taken there. You get a point for each (meaning, if you transfered from a much cheaper college and expect to get in here.......next to impossible). Everywhere else there is an insane waiting list but the program is 1/3 the price of my private college :crying2:

It is very competitive elsewhere, the only difference is that we go by a point system and not lottery system like the other school (thank goodness).

I wish you the best of luck. :)

My college has about 60 spaces for every 300 or so people that apply. They base their admission on GPA, how many classes you took at the college, ACT scores, having all your pre reqs done.

Good Luck to us all,

My school starts a class every semester. They took 144 students out of over 600 applicants for this fall, which is when I start. This school requires completion of A&P I and II, English Comp I, completion or current enrollment in Micro at the time of application, and chemistry. Human Growth and Development, Sociology, General Psych and one Humanities are required before starting the last term of the RN program but if you have already taken them then you get points for them also. Points from the classes you have taken and a specific percentage of the total points from NAT test, and additional points for some types of previous medical experience are added together for the students total points. No interviews. I applied but did not expect to get in for the fall because I still haven't taken Gen Psych or Humanities but my NAT scores pulled me over others that had all classes and I did get in, much to my amazement. So, I have to take them while taking the nursing classes too.

Well, the DallasCCCD El Centro/Northlake campuses has, I think, 110 slots. However, the campus I want at only has 30 of those slots. (If I'm thinking straight!) (Another DCCCD campus has its own program.)

For those that got accepted for the fall the cut off was 3.77 on the 13 credits of pre-reqs, and they also had 11 credits of the support classes finished.

We have to do the NET with at least 50math/50reading, but the score is not used for rankings. You have to make 50/50 to even apply, period.

The pre-reqs GPA gets looked at first, then the number of support classes/credits completed.

If all 110 had 4.0 with all 17 support credits finished, then they would look at the GPA of the support courses.

...But that is not going to happen...for the Spring '06 admission, the cut off will be 3.77 with 11 credits of support classes complete, just as it was for this Fall '05. That would get me right in since I have all 17 credits complete!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA (Nothing like positive thinking in writing! I think I'm doing it on almost every post now!) :chuckle :chuckle

Good luck to everyone!

Wow, it sounds like they're all pretty competitive. With all the determination we have I know we'll get in though!

That is one of the gate keys to success, and I am sure you will make it no matter how long list is! :p

Yeppers, gonna learn me those thar conversions while I wait to get the good news from the mail stage! lol Oh wait....wrong thread, I guess I better talk right! HAHAHA

My school is not competitive at all! You have to have passed all of your prereqs with at least a C and then you go on the waiting list. Everyone done in the same semester is placed on the list in the order that they had their health career orientation. They take the first 70 students from that list every year. The waiting list is 2 to 3 years. The system is good for some people, but since I have a 3.8 I can't help but wonder if I wouldn't have to wait so long if I could afford to go somewhere else!

2-3 years? hmmmm I'm assuming your going for your ADN. Are you taking classes toward your BSN while you wait?

That's what I would do, just wondering if you were as well.

Good luck, and hopefully your waiting time isn't very long. :)
