We do 12's self-scheduling, but rotations I have worked before are

MT/WR/FSS - alternating on and off each week and 7-on and 7-off

I don't care for either (and would not work either). I like the flexibility of self-scheduling.

Our day shift rotates 25% and it can be to eves or nights. We have straight shifts for eves and nights that are twelves.

I work 12 hour shifts (which always end up being at least 13 hour)....Sat/Sun/Wed. Love the schedule!

2 weeks days , 2 weeks nights. 12 hr shifts

M/T, F/S/S ,W/TH ,M, F/S/S, W/TH

It works pretty well because i can take one monday off a month and have 8 days off in a row. I work straight days, switch off with someone who prefers straight nights, but they work the same schedule only 7p to 7a.

I'm not familiar with some of the terms you all are using... "self scheduling"? What is that? Seriously?

Myself, I work twelve hour shifts normally, but right now am working three 8's and one 12 per week, because I am working on a play and have rehearsals a lot of evenings. As you can tell, scheduling on my particular unit is VERY flexible and I love it! After the play is over, I may go back to just working 12's or I may keep this schedule, if my manager will let me.

We turn in our schedule requests....and pretty much get what we want within reason. One of our fellow nurses does the schedule and has it approved by the Nursing Manager.

If things come up and we need to switch, we find the compatible person, and turn in the "switch". It's pretty good.

But we do work "straight nights" or "straight days". There's none of that back and forth to night and day crud. I did that at another facility and NO THANK YOU--never again.

We have dedicated staff for days and nights. However, if we ever want to work extra...we can do it on days or nights...whichever needs us.
