Help me understand something please

Tricia, I use two definitions of prerequisite. The first is a class you have to complete before taking a specific class (or before applying to nursing school). The other is any nonnursing class required to graduate from nursing school. I think some people here use the term to mean the more specific to nursing classes needed before nursing school but not all the nonnursing classes that every degree requires (like English composition, a physical activity class).

In either case, exactly which classes are prereqs varies from school to school. However, there are common patterns.

Our English Comp was a Pre Req (required before applying to the program) I consider pre reqs classes needed before you can apply and Co Reqs classes needed to graduate that you can do prior, during or after you finish your nursing classes.

More like 2.5 to three years, don't you think? There are usually 15-20 semester hours for pre-reqs for ADN programs. I've never seen any that require 60, which would be four semesters of pre-req coursework. That's assuming full-time, though.

Some schools require pre-requisites for the pre-requisites.

The only person I personally know who will get through my ADN program in two years is a kid right out of high school who took all his prerequisites while still in high school. My hats off to him - I couldn't find my butt with both hands at his age.

Only way you get through my school in 4 years ( BSN ) is if you are willing to do over 20 hours for a few semesters. It is not impossible but it is very hard and you have to be committed.
