Sure you can do the LPN then finish the RN later, but why not just go straight into the RN program?

how can i do this? can i enter a vocational school for a RN program? does anyone know any school that has a RN program in San Diego, CA? Thanks everyone. :)

Hi everyone, I am new here! Just wanted to say hi! I have a few questions regarding nursing, which i want to do. I am from San Diego, Ca, and i was wondering if could take come nursing classes to get to LVN and become a RN later. Is this path possible? I was wondering if someone can tell me the exact steps to becoming a RN if possible. thanks.

I'm in SD as well. City College has a great program, as does Grossmont. SDSU has a killer BSN program. All of these have a waiting list though so get hot on your prereqs now. I taking classes at national now but I'm probably going to be classing up at Maric in January (I hope). This is a second carreer for me I'm I dont have the patience for waiting lists. Good luck

What courses does Maric College offer? Can you tell me? I think Maric College is off Kearny Mesa right? :)

Maric has a website with all the information. They offer everything from CNA to RN (ASN). The catch is that to get into their RN program you have to have "previous medical experiance."

Another downside to Maric is that they dont come cheap. I've just decided to bite the bullet and float a student loan, there's plenty of work around after graduation.

If you really want their RN program and dont have any experiance, they'll be happy to sell you some. You can take a CNA class and after that do RN. You could also go RN then bridge up. For me though this would all be too pricey. If you've got the time and the patienc, the community colleges like City and Southwestern and Grossmont would be the way to go. They've got some great programs. I really wish that that route had worked out for me.

I am going LPN, RN then BSN becuase of work and cost.

ie the LPN and LPNtoRN bridge are given at our local technical college, the bridge program here is for working lpn's only withat least 400hrs paid experience before entering the bridge program. The school is accreddited so credits can transfer to 4 year institutions in our state for sure. And the cost is quite cheap per year, the lpn program complete is less than 5K and the rn bridge is not much either. This will leave not alot of credits (somehting around 30 or so)to take to complete BSN.

By the time I have my RN I will have 2yrs or more working as an lpn and I think that makes me more employable (and a few more $$)than just coming out of school with no real world experience.

Maybe not the route for everyone, but it is working well for me. Plus I expect to start some parttime work soon as a caregiver in an Alzhemers facility, as I plan on going into mental health eventually, I am actually starting at the bottom in this field and working up.
