I am currently a full time nursing student and also a full time manger at pizza hut. I am 18 years old. Ok here goes the back story bare with me. There is this guy I work with he is 21 and he thinks he has soooo much experience over me. Well he used to like me. If he has soooo much more life experience tell me why he stoped like me cause I have ugly legs, Yeah ugly legs (I actually think they are nice) well anyways He keeps telling me that I am setteling by being a nurse. I have wanted to be a nurse all my life and NICU nurse since 8th grade. He keeps telling me that I am not going to be able to handle the NICU. I understand that its going to be hard seeing babies die but I will also be able to see babies with a no chance of survival leave helthy and have a great life. I am there for that baby he or she relies on me day in and out.
PLEASE HELP.. WHAT DO I TELL THIS ARROGANT JERK.... AHHH ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY:angryfire. LOL

From your description of the guy, I would ignore him. When you graduate from nursing school and make way more money than he does with much more job satisfaction, you won't care. Meanwhile, he'll still be running frozen pizzas through the oven, and you'll be making a difference in the world.

Don't say anything and go out and live your dream. This guy is a talker and he is intimidated by your ambition. There are lots of people in the world who lack self confidence and put others down to feel better about themselves. When you are a nurse, go wave your paycheck in his face, that should do it....
Thanks You all help alot!

Wow....imagine the world WITHOUT nurses!! Next time he, or a family member, is in the hospital, tell him to try asking his doctor to assist him to a bedpan or help with a meal tray.
In my opinion, to put down ANY profession or anyone's chosen job path, is wrong. We are all born with different strengths and desires and thank heavens, because that helps keep the world going 'round. Where would we be if everyone wanted to run pizza stores?!?! :)
Best wishes and don't let anyone steal your dreams!!

I had soo many people tell me I would never be able to handle NICU. I had wanted to do it since 10th grade but felt like if everyone else thought I shouldn't do it then maybe I shouldn't. In the end though I didn't listen to anyone. I am a brand new (just passed boards on Saturday) RN. I LOVE the NICU and am beyone happy that I am there. I say, ignore him and do what makes you happy.

I have been an RN for 8 years and always thought about doing NICU. My husband and others always said "No, that would be too sad" etc and I was always intimidated by those statements I think. I ended up working with adults and did that for a long time and am not happy. I just decided a few months ago that I am finally going to pursue NICU. I figure, how can anyone else know what I can or can't handle? I am strong and have been able to handle adult ICU and other areas well. And I really have a desire to work in NICU. I know that I can do it so I am going for it, regardless of anyone else telling me that it will be depressing or scary. So my advice is - do it!!!
You know Mommy, what I don't get is how other ppl think they can tell you what you can or can't handle? On top of that, there ARE ppl out there working in NICUs -- thank God -- and what would we do without them?
In my opinion, none of nursing is easy....crimany, my first day of clinicals our pt died!! Was THAT easy? Heck no....my mom had just died a few months beforehand and to see this woman's daughters deal with it wasn't easy at all. I know babies are a bit harder to deal with, but death is death. Usually someone's loved one is involved regardless of the deceased's age and dreams, wishes, thoughts and hopes for the future are always somewhat dashed.
Bless you and I hope you get that job you've always wanted!!
