Has anyone encountered the dreadful "Security System 2009" thing? I had this come up on my laptop over the weekend and I cannot get it removed, no matter what I try. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to remove this? I can't open up word or save anything. Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Anytime I have had problems with my computer, I would google the problem and find different computer forums with solutions that always helped. Try googling Security System 2009 and see what comes up. Good luck!

Googling (as suggested by NYDreamer) shows:

One application said to be able to remove it is MalwareBytes Anti-Malware package (free!). I use it at home, along with Kaspersky Antivirus & Zonealarm firewall software. See:

You might also consider installing a good antivirus software package on your computer once it's cleaned up.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice. I have googled it and last night I tried the Mal-ware thing but it wouldn't even let me download it. I have anti-virus program but from what I have googled, this still finds a way in. I am waiting for the computer tech. to call me back...hopefully...

I had excellent results from the Malwarebytes' "Anti-Malware" program. Good luck -- I feel your pain!

I have Spyware Doctor on mine. I got the dreaded Personal AntiVirus thing a few weeks ago & that worked like a charm.

Go to the Geeks to go website:
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/register.html
Post your problem on there and I will personally guarantee that they will respond within 3 days and know exactly how to solve your problem. I go to them for all my computer needs. They have never failed and I've given them 5 different viruses that stumped me but they figured out how to fix my computer every time! :up:Good Luck! I know how aggravating:madface: a messed up computer can be :typing
There's a helpful post by CaptainPC on this exact same Malware over on allnurses central. See:

When all else fails, try a system restore.

UGH, you poor thing, I had that stupid virus on my computer a month or so ago (thanks to my lovely brother, haha). I actually used this to get it off my computer:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.aspx
Click 'Skip the details and download the tool'
Click 'Download'
Once it opens up (it won't stay on your computer after it's done scanning, so it won't be another hassle), it'll ask you to do a quick scan or full scan. I'd recommend just doing the full one, but it takes a few hours, so make sure you have some time to let your computer sit there. It SHOULD work, it did for my computer. If it doesn't... well, I don't know much more about computers, so you might want to take it in.
Best of luck!

I second the system restore.
It works better than any virus program.
I would try this before downloading anything further.
I think you can find it under........ Start>programs> accessories > command center> system restore
Or
On my computer, I noticed the last time I had to use it it was under start>programs>maintenance folder>system restore
Or I know that if you have vista you can find system restore under control panel-security-----i'm not sure the next click but if you play around you'll find it.
System restore will reset your computer's registry key to a save point in the past....most viruses change the registry to screw your computer up. Worth a try. I've done it many times and it has never failed.
Thanks for the reply. I actually got the stupid thing off yesterday with the help of one very smart computer guy. This things is nasty and ugly-right down to it's bones!!! But the computer is fixed and I am not gettting this constant pop-up. Thankfully, I can use everything again.
