Help did not pass the ANCC

I took the exam. You need a 350 mine was 347. Missed it by a little. Many of the questions were ehtical. Lots of the questions were about end stage and needing to admit or do this. The ethical questions were okay but the overall clinical questions were very confussin. All the clinical questions that people thought were important during school- anemia, HTN, Hep B, & Sinusitis, were not there. Nothing on national guidelines. Very disapointed and unsure of myself. Any thoughts?

Hi,

So sorry to hear that. You were so close too. I am scheduled to take it a week from tomorrow and I am freaking out! My brain is totally fried and I'm not sure what else to study.

Were you able to take a review class? Or use any review books. I have heard that the Fitzergerald review book is very helpful.

I took the Fitzgerald review and used her book. I also used an older version of the APEA review course (I think 2007)- it was very similar to Fitzgerald. I also purchased APEA test questions. Looking into Notecards for next time. Have to wait 60 days, however I am looking at taking the AANP for practice.

Hi fight fatigue,

I have a question. When you took the ANCC exam, were you able to go back and check your answers after you were done or was there a way to go back to the previous question?

Thanks!

Grace

You are able to go back and look at answers as well as mark them and go back.

I also had a near miss the 1st time I took the FNP exam. What I realized was that I was using an inferior test prep. book : the questions were not as rigorous as on the exam itself. I changed to a different book with "real world" questions and I sailed through next time. Maybe this is something you should double check? Good luck to you!

When I took the exam last summer there were a lot of questions from the ANA Social Policy statement. It might be helpful to review that booklet.

Best of luck to you....

I will be taking the ANCC ANP exam in just two short days!! And I am really nervous. Anybody have any words of wisdom. I've studied for the past three months and now I am just reviewing some possible weak areas. Out of curiousity, what would you rate the difficulty of the exam at? Was it easier than the NCLEX?

Thanks!

I thought it was much easier than NCLEX. There were none of those horrible "choose all that apply" questions. I had a lot of questions from the ANA standards and social policy statement. Don't memorize drug dosages, but know classes of drugs. I took the FNP exam, but I can't imagine the ANP is whole lot different (except for the peds stuff). Good luck to you. Let us know how it goes!!

Smitty08,

Do you recommend a certain exam book to study for the PMHFNP? I start school this Jan. Was the effort of school for your PMHNP worth it in the end? It would be great to hear any input you might have on this subject. Thanks, peaceful.

Smitty08,

I have the same question as Peaceful...what book do you recommend?

Thanks

Don't beat yourself up. I was all prepared for the hard core medical dx, rx, labs and my test consisted of billing and research questions. It had to be luck that I passed! I'd say if your more into the hard science parts then don't take the ANCC, go with AANP. So many of the ANCC tests are largely skewed to being non science type questions and all the training books/cds/classes have like a 10 min section on that. This does not mean that you are going to be a bad NP or that you don't know what your doing, you made it this far! I'd sign up for the AANP and try that one.
