Help!!! I have made a mistake and wrote a bad check!

are you being tried for "deceptive practices" or did you just bounce a check? If you just bounced a check, pay it off, pay the fine, and don't worry about it. If you're being prosecuted for "deceptive practices" you may need to speak to your legal representative. Other than that, I really don't know...

I'm being taken to court for a bad check. I went and paid it but they said that I still have to appear in court on Monday and the charges are passing a bad check.

Get a good lawyer, if the check was over $199 is may be considered a felony in some states. My advice would be to pay off the check to whoever you wrote it to ASAP including any fees that are involved and that way you will look more responsible to the court. Have you recieve a summons or just notification that you bounced the check? If it is just a notice then they threaten to take you to court or turn it over after so many days, take care of it NOW. If you have a summons, still you should pay it off quickly and talk to a lawyer, They usually handle these things out of court.

When I applied to nursing school, they did a background check and found a bounced check I had written a few years before. Apparently the store it was issued to had prosecuted, and it had made it to the state attorney's office. (I had moved and never even knew about it) But long story short, I had to take care of it before orientation to nursing school. I just paid the outstanding amount to the store, took the receipt to the state attorney's office and charge was dropped. I don't know the amount of your check or what stage of prosecution its at, but as other posters have said- go pay the check ASAP-it will either take care of the problem or at very least show that you are taking responsibility for your mistake. oh scary! I never knew because I never intentionally try to write bad checks but it happens nearly every month because we just don't make enough money.

This happened to me in 1999. I sent all court transcripts to the CNO( college of nurses of ontario). They sent it to discpiline board.My license was on the line. Needless to say after a lenghty process I am still licensed. I have a letter from the college which I submit with my applications as I must report that I now have a criminal record. Sucks hope you make out better

Never knew that you could get in troubble for writing a bad check

Well never wrote one before but i better get a handle on my balanceing my check book.

No, it is not because you don't make enough money, it is because you spend too much.

A friendly warning: Many employers these days run credit checks on new employees. An extensive history of repeated check bouncing will show up and hurt your credibility. While it will probably not affect your ability to get a nursing job, it will hurt your ability to get higher level nursing positions as well as it makes you appear to be irresponsible. Also, if you repeated bounce checks on the same companies, they will frequently have less tolerance on "the next time", and turn it over to the police/collection agency much quicker. And yes, you can go to jail for it.

Just think of how you would feel if several of your paychecks bounced.
