HELP! Don't know what to do.

Hello nurses and students!

I'm new here, and I have a question regarding my next steps. A little background: I attended a community college and got my AA in Nursing. I received NO HELP afterwards of what my next steps are. Fast forward, 3 years later I'm still just an AA in Nursing degree holder. I don't know what to do, what to apply to, and if I can get my bachelors in Nursing before doing my NCLEX? I'm really confused and I'm interested in furthering my education and passion in nursing.

    1. Contact the BON in your state and ask them what you need to do to take the NCLEX.

    2. Contact the school you graduated from to see what you need to do to get your ATT (authorization to test). They have to send paperwork to the BON for you to be able to take it.

    3. Find an in-person NCLEX prep course. They will best be able to assess your odds of passing. Realize that 3 years out puts you at a significant disadvantage.

    4. In addition to the in-person version buy an NCLEX prep book and do the test questions. All of them. Repeatedly.

    5. Prepare yourself mentally and financially to have to start over.

    6. Do not drag your feet in getting steps 1-4 initiated you are on borrowed time.

    I live in Canada and they sent the NCLEX here. I studied for 7 months before the one year was up. They only give you a year from when you get accepted to writer and 90 days from the time you book the date to write

    my friend moved to Texas in January, she only has an RN certificate. She just obtained a job at a hospital, they must need people.

    1.Take a Kaplan (or similar study course) NCLEX review course, and take the state board, to get your License in Texas

    2. get a nursing job

    3. you can always work part time & go for BSN part time, if you want :)

    my best advice to you is study the U-World test bank questions. It’s the exact same set up as the NCLEX. If you have taken a nursing course already you don’t need to take a course for the NCLEX as it’s not that difficult. It depends on the state if they will let you work as you work on your BSN.-

    CONGRATS on getting your nursing degree. ?There was a lot of great advice shares from many experienced nurses here. I'm sure you are ready to move forward towards the next step to pursue your RN Licensure. I would agree to prioritize and prepare yourself for passing the NCLEX exam. Passing the NCLEX opens a lot of doors and you can then choose your next steps with a nursing ladder program offered at many health facilities especially with high demands of nurse leaving and coming into the field. If you live in DFW area the county hospitals are a great start.

    The final decision is yours. Good Luck and I'm sure you will do great!
