No it will not stop you from getting into nursing school. Living proof right here :) You may have to take classes at a community college first, then transfer to a 4 year or you can stay at the CC, get your ADN then do RN-BSN. The route you take will depend on what's available in your area.
Good luck to you !!
PS.. I know of MD's that only had their GED.

Nope! I have my GED and had my choice of two Universities and CC. I chose CC for two reasons, one it's cheaper and two all I want is my ASN right now. However I could go for my BSN with it if and when I want to. Don't let anyone scare you. There's a reason they call it an equivalency diploma. It's equivalent to a high school diploma. : )

Don't let people intimidate you. I have my GED and it didn't effect me at all when applying to NS. I applied at 3 schools (CCs and University) and got into all three. As long as you have at least 12 college credit hours (at least in my experience) they judge you on college GPA and don't look at HS/GED except to make sure you at least have one or the other. You will be just fine! :) Good luck

The school I go to has to meet a certain amount of GED applicants they let In every year. I had a very high score so it was not a problem. My school also only requires ACT not SAT. So I took ACT and scored high. It's a 4 year school so I'm getting my BSN after being homeschooled since 4th grade. My math scores weren't high enough for college algebra bc I did not take any high school math classes so I took remedial math my first semester. Don't let any one tell you can't get in. Talk to the schools first. I am now a junior with a 3.7 GPA with no high school education whatsoever.

No! A GED is just as good as a high school diploma. The only thing it may be lacking in is that you don't have any AP highschool classes that would get you out of some basic college courses, but neither did I! Now I have a 3.8 GPA and am kicking some serious A$$ in school. Don't let the nay sayers knock you down, GED is the LEAST of your worries!!
Thank thank thank you :) so happy to hear this. I was getting really worried. Good luck everybody

I know 2 chief nurse executives that started out with GEDs after dropping out of HS due to 'academic difficulties'. One is a CRNA with a post-grad certification from Wharton Business School. The other just completed her PhD (MSN in nursing administration).
That GED will just 'poof away' into the dimly remembered past when you receive your college degree. Congratulations on your achievements!

No it will not! I just got into nursing school and I have a GED. I got into a very competitive school too, only accepts 32 students twice a year out of a couple hundred people. Just do good in college :)
