Have any of you....

Have any of you done anything extreme to get into your nursing program? And by extreme (In my case) I mean taking a lot of classes to meet application deadlines. I had high hopes to apply to my adn program this year. ( thinking my adviser would override me for a pre-req for science that wasn't met) unfortunately he didn't override me which means I can't apply until next year 2015-2016 and I'm extremely sad. However if I take my sciences somewhere else (that dont have those pre-reqs) I will be able to apply this year. But I don't know if I'm over doing it. The other school is a hour away so I would only take the sciences there and my other classes at the community college I've been at. I would have to do this for 2 semesters (summer and fall). I'm just worried about the fall I would be taking a&p 1 and chemistry plus 2 other classes.... just don't know if I'm over doing it. If I don't apply this year I would be spending 4years on an associates degree and at some point I might just give up if I don't get it done now.

Good day:

This semester, I'm pushing above what I've previously handled in order to get my prerequisites done this semester; in the summer, I'm also going to be pushing it by taking 10 to 14 credits of classes to make it easier (my hope) come August (those classes are not prerequisites to get in; but would allow me to focus more on clinicals). I've found https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/how-get-any-846733.html to be helpful every single semester. For scheduling this semester, I've been fine tuning using Google Calendar and IOS Reminders for scheduling.

Thank you.

I had to take 17 credits in one semester to be able to meet the application deadline for nursing school. I had Physiology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Microbiology Lab, Intro to Health Professions and Human Growth & Development all at the same time.

It was a LOT of work, but I managed to get through it by staying organized. Even kept my 4.0 GPA intact :)

Was it extreme? Yes. But I didn't want to wait a whole year to apply and then not be able to start for 6 months.

I got accepted right after my "semester from hell" :) I'm now 4 weeks away from officially being halfway done with the RN program!

I have packed as many classes as I could handle and still keep my sanity into the last 3 semesters. the current semester is my last semester of prereqs for the ADN programs I will be applying for...so I will be taking an easy summer (Maybe one or 2 online EASY courses that I may need for the BSN program I am applying for) and the fall I will fill in any other co reqs for the BSN programs I am considering....

after 3 semesters at my max I am glad to have an easy semester to recover before (hopefully) nursing school in the spring

slow and steady wins the race......unless your at clinicals.

I took 5 classes worth 13 credits last semester and am taking 4 worth 16 credits this semester. Then I am going to try and do college algebra over the summer online which scares the crap out of me. I don't like the idea of not being in a classroom but I will be on several vacations this summer and I need to take a laptop with me so I can do class. I will be on the beach in Hawaii doing algebra.

But I'm doing what I have to so I can be in the program in the fall. I am so tired of putting my life off, I just wanted to get it done.

I'm at Truman college and I wouldn't be able to start the nursing program until the fall of next year so I'm transferring to triton. I'll be taking two classes (psych online, and anatomy and psysiology) be done with them by august 1st then I can apply to the nursing program and start in the Spring! I'm excited. Plus triton is closer to my new job than Truman so it's more than just anxiousness to start the program.

I took 50 credits in a year.... 15 credits for Spring Summer and Fall and 5 credits (2 classes) over winter break. *wipes forehead* I ended up waitlisted for spring and now I'm waiting around to hear back from schools again for fall. Honestly - having been waitlisted it wasn't worth it. If I'd gotten in though, that would have been a hell of a story!

Im so sorry that's my biggest fear..doing all this to get put on the waiting list.

I did something similar. Last summer I took Chemistry at one school and Anatomy at a school an hour away (because my local school wouldn't let me take both those classes during the summer since it would be over their 8 credit limit for summer). I then took 19 credits in the Fall, including Physiology, Microbiology, Developmental Psychology, Sociology, and a computer class. I'm also married with four kids, so it was pretty intense. It was worth it though, because I just applied this semester, and although my school has a waiting list, at least I'm able to start sooner than I would if I took my time with these classes. It really all depends on what you think you can handle. I like things fast paced. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you!

It was certainly a learning experience. My major suggestion - don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Apply to as many schools as possible! I made the mistake of only applying to one huge (and super competitive) state school!

I'm doing 16 credits working a full time job in the army and I have 2 babies, a 2 and a 1 year old. If I can do it, you can do it!
