H1B

There is another question. Will the Magnet status of the hospital help in getting H1b? I know that in hospitals with Magnet status there is some limit to hiring ADN nurses and they prefer BSNs to keep this status. Also the job description might say BSN preffered (but not required).

I will not go for ADN-MSN because I need to save some money in between degrees during my OPTs (Unless I find a sponsor millionaire :) I will better work during OPT after a BSN and apply for H1b and save some money.

This is what my question is about - Magnet requires BSN, then:

(1) a bachelor’s or higher degree or its equivalent is normally the minimum entry requirement for the position;

(2) the degree requirement is common to the industry or, in the alternative, the position is so complex or

unique that it can be performed only by an individual with a degree;

(3) the employer normally requires a

degree or its equivalent for the position; or

(4) the nature of the specific duties is so specialized and

complex that the knowledge required to perform the duties is usually associated with attainment of a

bachelor’s or higher degree. See 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A)

Also not all the Magnet hospitals require BSN.

Magnet status will not make any difference to getting H1b or not. Most hospitals will employ BSN therefore if they wish to go the H1b route then being magnet or not will make no difference.

I would say concentrate on getting your nurse training and then see what is happening with the visa side of things

I agree with Silver Dragon, Magnet status will not help get the H1B, the applications I have seen require the majority of the nurses have basic BSN.

Actually that is incorrect. I have worked for several magnet hospitals and do not have a Bachelor's. I have just been hired on staff by a magnet facility that is consistantly listed the best in the nation. Said facility has no nursing shortage and a multitude of apps coming in monthly.

And Magnet status was recently granted to a Florida facility that really does not have many staff nurses that are BSNs.

The above link shows that BSN is accessed. My understanding the % of BSN prepared nurses is weighted heavily. I don't have an answer for Florida, I have heard several hospitals in my area are not renewing their status because of the burden it has, maybe they are lowering their standards.

Anyways a BSN at a Magnet Hospital will not equal a H1B Visa.

I was just thinking that in order to get an H1b I need to prove that BSN is required by the employer. The Magnet status would help to prove to immigration that BSN is needed to work in this hospital.

The employer has to apply for H1b and they have to prove stuff not you. You just need to prove that you meet H1b requirements which is BSN

All they need to prove that a BSN is required for the job is a position description for that job. That is what was used to prove my position was a "professional" position for a work visa.

If I remember correctly, you came to the US with a special skill set and the knowledge how to implement a very unique piece of technology. Can someone with a newly minted BSN with a year's experience qualify as a specialist ? I don't know the answer, where I work I have not seen an IEN newly employed in many years. Hospitals in my area have more new grad nurses.
