Graduating

Published

I graduate next May (2015) and I was wondering how long after graduation you normally sit for boards, and after you pass how long credentialing takes?

Major life events after completing FNP school, just wondering how to plan them out: new job, new baby/pregnant/moving.

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing! I hope someone has some input.

There are several threads about this that you may want to check out.

It normally takes about 1-2 weeks to get authorization to test after graduation. After that you can arches use your own exam for the next day if you want.

Depending on your state, after you pass the boards you request a certification letter and apply for your APN license, which takes 2-3 weeks in most places. Then you (in requiring states) get a job/collaboration agreement and apply for prescriptive authority from the state which can take several weeks, then you apply for a DEA license which takes a week or more. After that you start being credentialed by insurance companies and your medical facility which can take weeks to months.

Typically from graduation to the day you can start working, the quickest you can do it is about a month and a half to two months.

So . . . . you cannot get prescriptive authority unless you have a job?

Depends on your state and if it has independent practice or not.
