Kind of agree, but need more info. Do you have all the other prereqs finished? Grade forgiveness is only allowed so many times. You may want to save it for harder classes, but if this is the only class that would hold you back, then possibly, yes. If you have more classes to take, then those grades will raise the GPA and it might not be needed. It depends on your prereq requirement and how many hrs you already have. Use your grade forgiveness smartly.
It totally depends on the application procedure of the school you're planning to apply and the retake policy of your current school. All schools do it differently. Some take overall GPA very seriously, some care mostly about pre-req GPA. Also the more classes you take if you get solid grades the less of an impact that grade will have.
I agree, it depends. Along with the above, it depends on whether the reasons you got the D are still issues. If they are even maybe still an issue, I wouldn't retake the class unless it the only one that would fulfill a requirement: and I was certain I was going to stay with the program that required it.
Another thing to consider is that you may some day go to a different school that has different policies about retaking classes. One school I've gone to replaces grades in retaken class, another doesn't accept the first schools replaced grade: it factors both grades.
I agree with Carley - the more classes you take the less of an impact this one will have.
If you only have 2 classes left, then yes, I would consider it. Talk to the nursing adviser and see if this class is going to sideline you for admission to nursing school. If that's the only thing that isn't making your GPA competitive, then, you should probably consider it. I would see what they say. If they tell you it's no a big deal, then save the forgive for something else.

In my freshman year of undergrad, I got a D in a computer class. It's pulled my GPA to a 3.4. Should I retake it or not worry about it since it's non science related?
