Got Accepted for ADN but is it worth it?

Published

Hi everyone! Really struggling as I make this choice. I got accepted at Carrington College in Reno to start in May. The two other schools in the area (1 state and 1 community college) have huge waiting lists at this time so those are not a possibility. My question is, should I go this route now that I am accepted, or is it better for me to pack up and commute to Sacramento for the BSN? I do have my BS in Liberal Studies, but I will have to do many of the pre-reqs again (which will take a while) and leave my current home life... coming home with a 2 hour commute on the weekend. Will this ADN get me going? Or is this a complete waste of time? Especially since the cost of CC is pretty pricey. I've read many of the threads on here stating that most places of employment will prefer a BSN. I was going to continue education post graduation and once I am employed.

Thank you so much for your insight on my dilemma as well as any thoughts on Carrington College.

:)

If you have already gotten accepted to a 4 year school, and the price is reasonable, than thats probably the best option. Check out the local hospitals in your area, and see if they are hiring associate degree nurses. It really depends on the area.

I suggest going to get a BSN if you're going to spend a lot of money. I am applying to my local community college whose ADN would cost $4,500 total. Of course I would have to go back to school to get a BSN, but you save money in exchange for the more scenic route, haha.

Check the hiring section online for the hospitals near you. My area hires ADN and they all just say "gratuation from an accredited program required".

Looking at the job posting will tell you if you will be able to find a job with an ADN or not.

It looks like Carrington College is a for-profit school - I'd avoid that route at all costs. I'd be looking at community colleges, getting your ADN and then doing a bridge program online.
