getting a C in 2 pre- reqs for nursing.

Published

So far I have completed all but three of my pre-req classes. I have maintained a b average, one C in A&P, through out my college career. But this semester I might make a C, in two of my three classes, should I be worried???!!

It really depends where you are applying. My school was very competitive and even though the minimum gpa to apply is a 2.5, no one got in lower than a 3.7. We all had mainly A's in all of our pre-req's, especially our science courses. I would look at where you are going to school, call them and ask the minimum gpa that usually gets accepted.

I would be worried. Nursing schools are competitive nationwide.

My school for one closed at 4.0, 3 years ago.

I think B average is a little low for nursing school.

Dependson the school, area, and the cohort applying the year. I had 2 C's and got into nursing school on my first try at 17. One in A&P I and the other in an English Class. Many of my classmates had at least one C somewhere in their prereqs. My GPA was around 3.3 to 3.5 when I got in. My school looked at more than just GPA though.

And a B average is not necessarily low for nursing school.

It all depends. My school won't even look at you if you have less than a B in A&P.

Call the school(s) you'll be applying to and find out their minimum GPA requirements. You can also ask them whether there's other things you can do to improve your application if your GPA is going to be low.

Some schools have 1000 applicants for 100 positions and 200 of them are exceptional. Then you have schools like mine that have 250 applicants for 100 positions and 150 of them don't even have all their prereqs done. Its totally individual to your school. My school wouldn't tell me jack. I asked a lot of questions.

My BSN program required A's in specific courses, but B's were acceptable in others. That was the limit.

We had over 700 applications for 68 spots. Our A&P grades and our math grades are some of the main criteria for acceptance. I would recommend retaking your A&P if you can to try and bring your grade up. Plus, you really need to understand that stuff for nursing school.

I had all B's in my science pre-reqs and one C that I missed by one point, but I still got in! Try not to stress and do your best! Good Luck! :)
