Ask your school. We could get our CNA just by registering and paying the fee after our first semester.

I'm in the same position. I graduate in two weeks but we won't even take the HESI until Jan 7 so I probably won't take the NCLEX until April. I need to work now! You are in CA like me so you'll need to take the CNA written and skills test. I have an appointment in Jan but I'm hoping I'll get hired before then. Anyway, you have to do a fingerprint and then send off the application to the state. I'll email you the application because I always have a hard time finding the website.

I was going to say why bother if it's only 3 months til graduation, but if you have to wait 5 months to take the NCLEX, geeze! Why does CA make you wait so long. I feel fortunate that TX allows us to work as GVNs first. I took the NCLEX less than a month after graduation and got results in about 24 hours. I've heard the horror stories from CA regarding that... I would tell you to contact whatever governing board in CA or possibly your school may know. Good Luck.
