:chuckle I've only been in geriatrics a few months but it has been a learning experience. I had an old man today that cracked me up. He's been there 2 days and came from his home. I was feeding him and he didn't want to eat or participate too much. He's having trouble adjusting. He used to be a lawyer and it really shows because he likes to negotiate. He leaned over to me and asked,"How long you been here? Do you got any pull?" I said, " a few months, and I might have some pull. What do you want?" He said, "How fast can you get me out of here, and into bed?" Then he winked at me and said, "I meant to lay down, but if you took it another way, I'm ok with that too.":wink2:

I have worked with some pretty funny old guys too. We had one a couple of months ago that we were just keeping until a nursing home bed became available. He had always enjoyed a nightcap at home and our doctor wrote an order for 1 oz. of rum @hs PRN. This old fella was a bit confused and he used to always ask for a drink before the order had ben written and we always had to say no.The first evening he asked me for a rum and I said "sure" he was dumbfounded. After a drink and his Tylenol I tucked him in with a warm blanket from the heater, he looked up and said " dear, I hope when you are old and sick someone does this for you". We enjoyed him.

I love moments like these...Both of your stories were cute. Thanks for sharing. I haven't been in that population for about a year and hearing little stories like yours, makes me miss it. :redbeathe

What great stories! I LOVE it when I get funny, kind old men at the hospital. There are such joys in nursing.

Thanks for posting.

I have a resident who was quite the hunter and gun collector. The facility I work in is located at the edge of town in a beautiful valley with timber all around. After watching through his window this last month, looking out at the pond, he tried to talk the administrator into closing off the drive to the facility and having a dove shoot. Wheelchair accessible!!
