From Interview to Offer, What Does HR Search For On You?

Published

Hey All,

I'm applying for jobs and wondering what HR searches for when they consider you for a job in the time from the interview to the actual job offer. Criminal checks? Background checks? What information do they obtain from your school? Just the transcript or do they search for you on your school's directory also?

Thanks. :D

Once you receive a job offer, HR does all of the above. The do background checks that include criminal, social security, sexual offender, ect. They ask for a copy of your diploma, but they still request transcripts to verify you graduated. It really depends on the school. But the background check and transcripts, ect are standard.

Thanks for the response.

Once HR has approval to make a job offer, do they make the call to the candidate the same day or can it take some time?

I believe it's within a day or so. But it depends. If the HR person is out on vacation or something, it might take longer.

And not all HR departments operate with the same procedures. You would have to ask the HR department involved to find out what their specific process is and how long it takes.

I received a job offer earlier this week and I was never asked for transcripts or proof of my diploma. I think having a license already maybe spells it out for them that I graduated from somewhere? I have no idea what credentials or references were checked between the interview and the offer. I actually thought the interview didn't go so well, I was surprised to get get an offer!
