hey guys, i don't know if im the only one having this problem, but i work in a longterm facility, first shift and it just drives me crazy.
This is because, the evening and night shift nurses don't wanna do anything!
e.g new orders i leave something for them to do, because i was busy n didn't get to it but guess what? its still there the next morning waiting for me.
does this happen to you??
I would like to hear,

with all respect ( just started evening and nights) we are busy too! At least where I work doctors don´t take care of things on shifts unless is quite acute. For u too be too busy to do things is not an exscues to be frustraded at your coworkers..they are busy too and day, evening and night have it´s own rutine but all busy. This is why atleast where I live we HAVE to do day/ evening/ night so the staff gain a respect for the work done instead of blaming each other becauce one does not have the insight into how your collegues work. When all thats said and done of course I feel your frustration, it´s just that I came from a night shift..didn´t get anything done cause I had two pt.s dying and three people in a acute state .. still felt guilty when I left for not taking care of all the stuff I had two but we are only human.

I just read a post yesterday from a night shifter in LTC and they said they had 79 patients and only 3 CNAs and 1 LPN. Their complaint was they couldnt get every thing done, my advice was to only do what was medically needed and maybe if 1st shift had to do some of their work during the day then they would join her campaign to get additional night staffing.
I have worked days and nights and from my exp they each bring their own challenges. I think until you have worked a complete night shift schedule you cant judge or complain about what the other shift is doing or not doing.

I agree with this response.
Perhaps the shift coordinators for both shifts can get together to communicate issues and concerns of their respective nursing staff. Maybe a realistic list of tasks can be prioritized between the two shifts to alleviate replications and/or overloaded tasks.
I work on days mostly, and I do get aggrevated when orders that I was unable to complete are also not carried out by the night RN but find out what happened. The night RN may have had a challenging/busy night too. Just my ...

I don't work LTC but I've worked both shifts at a hospital...recently switched to day shift 2 weeks ago. I try to tie up all my loose ends before I leave but sometimes you can't always do that. That's why shifts have to work like a team. Just don't let it degenerate into an us vs them mentality.
