First RN Job

Which one would you rather do?

I was kinda like you. I job offers about 1 1/2 hrs from home, & from my local hospital. I decided to stay at home because I did not want to drive. I am in med surg & absolutely love it. I have been there 6 whole days . I had very good clinicals in school, but I am learning so many skills that did not present themselves in school. For me I felt I needed to learn my skills and wanted to do m/s before I did anything else. I would do what I felt would suit me best. Good Luck

Personally I would not drive an hour to work. If you work a 12 hr shift that makes it 14 hours at least! And if you work days imagine what time you'd have to get up in the morning! Which means early to bed (I just cant ever go to bed early no matter what). If you are married or have kids you really need to consider driving time since it takes away from them. If you are single and like being gone all day then do it. But also consider the gas price and mileage on your car.

Take the job you want. I jumped straight into the deep end, so far, so good.

Thank you to everyone who gave their input...I've decided to take the local position. I do have young kids (ages 10, 8, 6, 5) and would like to be at home as much as possible with them. I'll take advantage of all the skills I can learn on a med/surg floor and then see where the road leads me after that!! Good luck to everyone else starting their new careers!
