Fever and Headache

what...?? What is the difference??? besides the obvious, fever being FEVER and headache being... HEAD is ACHING.... what do you mean?

op, are you trying to ask, what is the difference between a headache with fever, versus a headache without one?

The head hurts, thrombing etc in both.

For both, you take the same medications like Aspirin.

My Pharm book has both Headache and fever in the same chapter.

I am still in Nursing school so it is not that obvious to me.

Can you remember the last time you had a fever? How about the last time you had a headache?

How did these experiences feel different to you?

I guess I am also interested in the patho physiology of what may be going on in the body during a headache and a fever.

your head does NOT always hurt when you have a fever.

you do NOT always get a fever when you have a headache.

when you have a fever, your skin is hot....you are hyperthermic.

when you have a headache, you head hurts.

they're not comparable...

Your temp. doesnt always rise when you have a headache, unless it is due to an infection or inflammation.

a temperature occurs when there is an infection in the body. Your hypothalamus raises your body temp. to fight off the infection. Bacteria normally have a difficult time living in anything above 98 degrees, so its a defense mechanism to kill the infection.

a headache is when your head hurts. This can be caused by numerous things..Cluster headache, Migraine, tension headache. The brain itself does not have any pain receptors, so the brain CANNOT feel pain. So when you have pain in your head its due to something outside the brain (such as blood vessles in the head, cranial nerves, meninges etc.) Headache can be caused by stress, medications, increased intracranial pressure...many different things.

But a Fever and Headache are two completely different things.

The reason you take Ibuprofen for both (or tylenol) is because of thow they act in the body.

Ibuprofen and Tylenol can both reduce a fever and can also act on pain.

for example, Ibuprofen acts to inhibit prostaglandins, this will in turn reduce fever and help to reduce pain. So often times you might see an order for "Tylenol for pain or fever"

I am looking for an answer like this example

Viral Cirrohis is caused by viral hepatis which is caused by HAV while alcolic cirrhosis is cause by excessive alcohol.

Both cause infalmmation while HAV destroys the hepatocytes.

Both require the cessation of alcohol

blah blah blah.

using this example, This is very rough example of the answer I though I would get.
