Feeling Silly

So I'm on my fourth year of college and I just realized that I want to become a nurse. Well, because of that, I cannot get into Chem, or Bio because I need to do my math placement test over again. I was originally in Fundamentals of College Math(completely, but Fall of 2008), but now I have to get placed again.

Basically, I'm just wondering if I'm the only one in my position? I feel like I wasted my time previously, and now I've got ALL of this work to redo.

For instance, I kinda didn't care about grades for the longest time with the mentality of "Hey, a D is passing" so now I want to retake all those classes for my entrance Nursing GPA. Not only that, but I have to petition last semester to be gotten rid of.

I guess I'm just looking for hope that it's still worth it. I'm 20 years old, I've got two kids, and have gone many different routes with my college experience. I'm taking a CNA course next semester as well as a med terminology, and one of the classes I need to redo. I'm looking at spending... a couple years on pre reqs.

Is it worth it?

    Are you anywhere close on finishing a bachelor's yet? I would look into schools that offer a nursing degree to students who already a bachelors in another field. Those usually take about an extra year depending of course on what field you completed your first degree. Good luck!

    Unfortunately no, I don't have a bachelors. I'm about a year away, but not all the way there yet. I didn't take my schooling as something real when I first started, so I flaked a lot.

    You are young, so time is in your favor. Retake those nursing prereq classes to raise your GPA & then start applying to nursing schools.

    You are SOO young! Time is on your side, follow your heart and do what will make you happy despite the extra work. If you love your job in the end, all those extra years will be worth it :):up:

    I had a similar situation as you. I started college at 17 and didn't realize I wanted to do nursing until age 20 or 21, so started my pre reqs then after 3-4 years "wasted". Also had to retake a few classes that were not a's. so worth it though, I am 23 and just got into a program. You are young too so I think it's definetly worth it :)

    I agree you should go for it! I went to school and was two semesters from a bachelors degree in psychology but I withdrew. Five years later I went back to school started over and went into pre nursing. There are people of all ages that decide to go into nursing so age should not be a factor. Some schools focus more on your grades for your pre reqs than non science classes, so semesters that you did not do as well might not hurt you. Good Luck!

    Have you considered shadowing a nurse to see what it would be like? I think it is a great way to determine if nursing is really what you want to do. :)

    Don't feel bad! By the time I get my first bachelor degree, I will have been in school non-stop for 7.5 years, including about 4-5 summers. I hated every single program I was in until I started working towards nursing this summer. Now I'm 22 (23 in Feb), about to start nursing school, and have 5 semesters ahead of me.
